Why Spider-Man Fans Should Check Expectations for DLC and the Venom Game

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades under my belt, I can confidently say that Insomniac Games has truly outdone themselves with Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. The game’s captivating narrative and immersive gameplay have left me craving more, but it seems that patience might be the key here.

As Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 approaches its first anniversary, the tale of Peter Parker and Miles Morales’ exploits as the acrobatic web-slinger continues to be a captivating comic book rendition. The long-anticipated release of Spider-Man 2 unveiled an electrifying new phase, culminating in Peter deciding to delegate more duties to Miles, given his own desire for a more harmonious personal life.

The unfinished nature of this game sequel opens up numerous opportunities for a potential third installment in the series. Recent rumors hint at a Venom spin-off game as well, fueling excitement among fans who crave more Spider-Man adventures. However, Insomniac Games has yet to confirm or deny any plans for additional content for Spider-Man 2, leaving many fans in suspense about potential downloadable content. Since its release, the game has received several updates, but details on DLC remain shrouded in mystery. While we continue to hope for more expansions, it seems that eager players may need to be patient before any new content arrives.

Insomniac’s Spider-Man Releases Have Taken Their Sweet Time

Letting Games Breathe Between New Content

It’s possible that a surprise expansion for “Spider-Man 2” might be under development, but it seems rather unlikely given that there hasn’t been any DLC content for the original “Spider-Man” game since its release in 2018. We can’t forget about “Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales,” which came out two years later, but if Insomniac Games maintains their current pace, the next major “Spider-Man” game might still be several years off. However, there’s a chance we could see “Venom” before then as a potential filler.

As a die-hard gamer, I’ve been keeping my eyes peeled on Insomniac’s mysterious Venom project. Though it hasn’t been officially greenlit yet, if the rumors about its 2025 release are true, we might see this title sandwiched between their mainline releases, just like Miles Morales followed Spider-Man by two years. If Insomniac is sticking to this pattern with Spider-Man 2, it could offer a hint about where the franchise is headed. For us fans, this might be an unofficial glimpse into their future plans, but on the downside, it seems like we may not get any DLC for this Venom game.

In the concluding scene of Spider-Man 2, a hint is subtly dropped about the upcoming appearance of Silk, which could possibly expand our heroic cast even further.

Considering there are rumors that Spider-Man 3 might be the last installment in the series, it makes sense to crave additional content early on. However, adding a Spider-Man 2 DLC could potentially overdo things, making an already rich game feel overstuffed. With the recent leaks, it’s evident that Insomniac is juggling multiple projects beyond the Spider-Man universe as well.

Insomniac’s Growing Marvel Roster Makes Spider-Man 2 DLC Even Less Likely

It appears that the Venom project and Marvel’s Wolverine project are both consuming significant amounts of Insomniac’s time, leaving little room for additional work on DLC development. The leaked information about Insomniac’s future projects revealed more than the studio had intended, but the announcement of Marvel’s Wolverine has confirmed that the team is looking to broaden their Marvel universe. Given the number of projects they have in progress, one might question whether a Spider-Man 2 DLC is still needed.

Given that Insomniac is working on numerous new stories in the future, it seems redundant to further beef up Spider-Man 2. The original game was praised for its compelling narrative and immersive open-world experience, so perhaps these qualities will suffice until the next installment is released. The strength of Insomniac’s Spider-Man series lies in its storytelling, so if a DLC might dilute the original game’s narrative for additional content, it could be unnecessary.
