Bows are ancient weapons, and they’ve been a core part of the Monster Hunter series since the beginning. They still offer a unique and satisfying experience in Monster Hunter Stories 3.
I absolutely love using bows in this game! What’s so cool about them is that every time you fire, they build up power, but you can also add different coatings to your arrows for extra effects without losing that charge. Seriously, it’s the best of both worlds if you know how to use them, and I’ve been checking out some of the top-rated bows to share!
Tigrex Archer – Tigrex

- Paralysis Coating
- Flash Coating
- Exhaust Coating
- Defense Down Coating
Once you’ve defeated Endangered Tigrex in their natural habitat, you’ll be able to craft weapons from their parts. These weapons are incredibly strong, with the bow being particularly effective.
The Tigrex Archer boasts impressive damage and a Wyvernfell stat of 35, plus one slot for decorations. What really sets it apart is its versatile coating options, allowing you to apply multiple negative effects to enemies and completely shut down their attacks.
Insurgent’s Bow – Deviljho
- Poison Coating
- Flash Coating
- Defense Down Coating
You can first encounter and tame Deviljho in the Canalta Timberland by using a Paintball and winning the battle. It’s a worthwhile effort, as the weapons they provide are excellent and remain useful throughout the entire game.
The Insurgent’s Bow is a powerful weapon, boasting high attack power and dealing Dragon damage. It also has a Wyvernfell stat of 35, and its special coatings can help you soften up enemies before delivering the final blow.
Veldian Arcum – Arkveld
- Accuracy Down Coating
- Evasion Down Coating
As a Monster Hunter fan, I’m really excited about the Arkveld weapons in Wilds! What’s cool is they’re kind of a blank slate – they don’t come with a ton of built-in features. Instead, they’re designed to let you customize them using the Wyvernsoul Gauge, so you can build them exactly how you like to play. It’s a really flexible system!
The Veldian Arcum is a powerful bow, dealing up to 170 Dragon damage and boasting a solid 25 Wyvernfell. It has three decoration slots for customization, and its built-in coatings improve both your defense and attack power.
Diablos Coilbender – Diablos
- Exhaust Coating
- Attack Down Coating
- Evasion Down Coating
Diablos are terrifying enemies in any game they appear in, and even here, their weapons hint at the immense power they possess.
The Diablos Coilbender has one decoration slot, deals 160 normal damage, and boasts a high Wyvernfell stat of 35. It also provides an additional 15 defense, and its coatings can quickly exhaust enemies, making them easier to defeat.
Thunderbolt Bow – Thunder Serpent Narwa
- Paralysis Coating
- Sleep Coating
- Flash Coating
After you successfully hunt Ibushi and Narwa for the first time, you’ll unlock their unique weapons. Most of these weapons are crafted using parts from Ibushi, but one particularly powerful weapon comes from Narwa.
The Thunderbolt Bow deals the most damage of any bow, with 178 Thunder damage. However, it’s not as strong against Wyvern parts (only 15 Wyvernfell) and has limited customization with just one decoration slot. Despite this, its coatings can inflict strong status effects on enemies, helping you avoid taking damage.
Ashen Wrath – Glavenus
- Bleed Coating
- Power Coating
Glavenus, after its initial Honed form, is primarily found in Tarkuan. Defeating it provides early access to incredibly powerful weapons that remain useful throughout the entire game, even during the most challenging end-game content.
The Ashen Wrath Bow is a versatile weapon, dealing 164 fire damage and having 15 Wyvernfell. It also has two slots for decorations. Its special coatings focus on boosting damage for both you and your teammates, allowing you to significantly exceed its base damage output.
Glacial Arrow – Legiana
- Sleep Coating
- Bleed Coating
- Attack Down Coating
Legiana are uncommon monsters, found in limited numbers within the icy Glacial Caps of Serathis. However, the weapons crafted from their parts are exceptionally strong if you can successfully hunt enough of them.
The Glacial Arrow does 164 ice damage and has 15 Wyvernfell. It has one slot for a decoration. While not exceptionally powerful on its own, applying coatings to it can be very effective – you can use them to reduce an enemy’s attack power or even put them to sleep.
Hydra Planula – Namielle
- Paralysis Coating
- Bleed Coating
- Power Coating
- Accuracy Down Coating
Namielle can use both Water and Thunder attacks, but its weapons only inflict Water damage. These weapons still have some unusual traits inherited from the creature Namielle itself.

The Hydra Planula excels in water damage and has a 15% critical hit rate. While it doesn’t have any slots for decorations, it compensates with the ability to apply four different coatings, allowing you to boost your own abilities and hinder your opponents.
Dragon Solar Bow – Yama Tsukami
- Paralysis Coating
- Sleep Coating
- Power Coating
- Defense Down Coating
Yama Tsukami stands out among the Elder Dragons. Unlike most, you fight it in two separate areas, and its weaponry – even its bow – is unusual.
The Dragon Solar Bow deals a lot of standard damage – 170 – and is effective against Wyvernfell enemies with a score of 25. It doesn’t have any slots for decorations, but this is made up for by its versatile coatings, which can inflict status effects or weaken enemies, making it useful in any fight.
Iceflinger – Velkhana
- Paralysis Coating
- Power Coating
Velkhana is a relatively manageable Elder Dragon, making it easier to collect the materials needed for their powerful weapons and armor. And it’s good that it’s easier to farm them, because their gear is among the best in the game.
The Iceflinger Bow is incredibly powerful, dealing 174 Ice damage – among the highest in the game. It also has 25 Wyvernfell and space for two Decorations. While it only initially supports two coatings, you can add more by using those Decoration slots.
