Sony has clarified that the recent online license check was a one-time requirement. According to a statement received by GameSpot, players can continue to enjoy their purchased games as normal. The check simply verifies the game’s license once, and after that, no further internet connection is needed to play – even for digital purchases.
It was strange that Sony didn’t respond for almost a week while people discussed the issue online. The recent console updates probably included these new license checks, but they weren’t mentioned in the update details. Thankfully, it’s a one-time check, so we recommend players with digital games connect to the internet and verify their licenses as soon as they can.
Recent sales figures show that several Xbox games have performed surprisingly well on PlayStation. For example, Forza Horizon 5 sold 5.8 million copies just on the PS5.
