Vegeta, a legendary character and often called the Prince of all Saiyans, has been incredibly powerful in recent Dragon Ball Super storylines. Starting with the Resurrection F arc, he’s finally reached the same power level as Goku, becoming his true rival. And in Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, Vegeta definitively surpassed Goku in a direct fight, establishing himself as the strongest Saiyan in the entire Dragon Ball universe.
I’ve been following Dragon Ball Super, and it looks like when the manga comes back, Vegeta will be right up there with Gohan Beast as one of the strongest Z-Fighters. He’s really worked hard his entire life, and now he has just as many powerful rivals as Goku does. Honestly, unlocking Ultra Ego was a game-changer for him. It’s given him a godly level of power that’s getting him closer and closer to Beerus, and to his ultimate goal of becoming the strongest being in the universe.
8. Toppo & Vegeta Are Both on the Path to Becoming Their Universe’s God of Destruction
Vegeta and Toppo are actually quite evenly matched in terms of strength. While Vegeta wins their fight in the Tournament of Power as a Super Saiyan Blue Evolved, it’s crucial to remember they were holding back because the rules didn’t allow them to fight to kill. If they had been in a serious, all-out battle, the outcome could have easily gone Toppo’s way.
Toppo is training to become a God of Destruction for Universe 11, guided by Belmod, similar to how Vegeta is currently trained by Beerus. He’s one of the few who can use the Hakai technique, and his Destroyer Form shares similarities with Ultra Ego. Just as Jiren reflects Goku’s power, Toppo mirrors Vegeta’s strength and journey.
7. Gas Gave Vegeta One of His Greatest Fights Ever
Once Granolah used the Cerealian Dragon Balls to become Universe 7’s strongest fighter, Elec decided to use them to make his brother, Gas, even more powerful. Instead of sacrificing Gas’s lifespan for strength, Elec wished for Gas to automatically age up and reach his peak potential whenever anyone exceeded his power level, ensuring he remained the strongest in the universe.
Vegeta’s new Ultra Ego transformation initially gives him an edge over Gas, but ultimately becomes his downfall. While incredibly powerful, Ultra Ego works by suppressing pain, which allows Vegeta to keep fighting even when he should be exhausted – eventually draining all his energy. It’s remarkable that Vegeta could even compete with someone considered the “strongest in the universe.” Now that Gas is gone, if he were ever revived, he’d be the ideal opponent for Vegeta to truly learn and control Ultra Ego.
6. Orange Piccolo is in the Same League of Power as Ultra Ego Vegeta
As a long-time Dragon Ball fan, I was so hyped to see Piccolo get such a massive power-up in Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero! Apparently, Shenron gave him a real boost. Akira Toriyama actually wanted to create a transformation for Piccolo that would finally put him back on par with Goku and Vegeta, since he’d fallen behind a bit over the years. And it’s awesome to hear from Toyotarou that Orange Piccolo is now at the same power level as Ultra Instinct Goku, Ultra Ego Vegeta, Gohan Beast, and even Legendary Super Saiyan Broly! It’s a fantastic time to be a Dragon Ball enthusiast.
Despite years of battling alongside each other in Dragon Ball Super, Piccolo and Vegeta have never had a direct fight. However, Piccolo’s ability to hold his own against Cell Max demonstrates his incredible power. He even questioned whether Goku or Vegeta could win, suggesting he’s much closer in strength to Vegeta than many fans realize. While the Saiyans, as usual in Dragon Ball, will likely surpass everyone eventually, Piccolo is currently a serious rival for Vegeta.
5. Gohan Beast Finally Fights Vegeta in Dragon Ball Super Chapter 103
I’ve always noticed Vegeta’s admiration for Gohan’s strength and how much potential he has. For a while there, especially at the end of Dragon Ball Z, Gohan actually became stronger than Vegeta. But Vegeta quickly closed that gap in Dragon Ball Super, and even left Gohan behind. Things stayed that way until the Super Hero movie, though. Now that Gohan’s unlocked his Beast form, he’s arguably the strongest fighter around. Vegeta is still right up there, though – he hasn’t fallen too far behind.
I just read chapter 103 of Dragon Ball Super, and it was really interesting to see Gohan in his Beast form spar with Vegeta. It happened right after Gohan’s battles with both Goku (in his Perfected Ultra Instinct state) and Broly. What struck me was that Vegeta didn’t even use his Ultra Ego transformation – he stuck with Super Saiyan Blue Evolved. Honestly, the fact that Super Saiyan Blue Evolved Vegeta could even keep up with Gohan Beast is incredible, and really shows how strong Vegeta has become.

4. Broly Has the Potential to Fully Surpass Vegeta
Broly is incredibly powerful, even compared to other Saiyans in the world of Dragon Ball. In his normal state, he pushed Vegeta to use the Super Saiyan God transformation. When Broly became a Super Saiyan himself, Vegeta was forced to use Super Saiyan Blue, but he and Goku still had a difficult time fighting him.
When Broly transformed into his Legendary Super Saiyan form, Vegeta was quickly overwhelmed and had to resort to fusion just to stand a chance. Currently, Broly can’t fully control his power, making him and Vegeta relatively equal when Vegeta uses Ultra Ego. However, if Broly learns to control his Legendary Super Saiyan transformation, he’ll surpass Vegeta and become stronger than him.
3. Goku Will Always Be Vegeta’s Greatest Rival
Goku consistently pushes Vegeta to become stronger, and their rivalry is central to the Dragon Ball series. Dragon Ball Super emphasizes how closely matched they are in power. While Vegeta gained a slight edge in Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, it wasn’t due to being stronger, but simply having a bit more endurance. Ultimately, Goku and Vegeta are essentially equals.
Goku and Vegeta are both striving to become stronger, but they’re taking different approaches. Goku is honing the divine techniques of Ultra Instinct, while Vegeta is concentrating on raw, destructive power. Interestingly, Vegeta consistently manages to match Goku’s progress, even mastering new Ultra Instinct abilities when Goku does. Right now, Vegeta has the edge, but it’s likely Goku will eventually surpass him, as he has done many times before.
2. Black Frieza is Vegeta’s Worst Nightmare
Vegeta and Frieza share a uniquely complex history in the world of Dragon Ball. They’ve known each other for a long time, and Vegeta was once forced to serve Frieza. So, when Frieza returned as Black Frieza and easily beat Vegeta’s Ultra Ego form, it was a particularly devastating moment for the proud Saiyan Prince.
The Dragon Ball Super manga shows that Vegeta is driven to become stronger because of Black Frieza’s return. He’s never defeated Frieza before, although he came close in Resurrection ‘F’, so it’s likely he’ll get a chance to finish the fight in the upcoming Black Frieza Saga. Vegeta will need to significantly increase his power, but Dragon Ball Super has consistently demonstrated his ability to overcome any challenge.
1. Vegeta is Closer Than Ever to Catching Up to Beerus
I remember when Dragon Ball Super first started, Vegeta didn’t have a hope against Beerus. But it was impressive – he actually managed to make the God of Destruction bleed as a Super Saiyan 2! Goku, even in his Super Saiyan 3 form, couldn’t even touch him. It’s amazing how far Vegeta has come, because years later, during the Granolah the Survivor Saga, Beerus showed his respect by gifting Vegeta an earring that symbolized their connection – a real sign of how much Vegeta had grown in power and as a person.
Vegeta’s new Ultra Ego form has brought him closer to Beerus’s incredible strength than ever before. While he still needs to defeat Black Frieza first, every possible ending of Dragon Ball Super involves Vegeta (and Goku) getting another chance to fight Beerus and ultimately demonstrating they’ve become equals to the God of Destruction.
