Block 25 million on the Ethereum blockchain was recently created during a normal period of network use. It contained 377 transactions and 122 internal transactions within those. The block was produced as expected, using Ethereum’s standard post-Merge process for verifying transactions.
People across the community noticed the event, with both infrastructure companies and developers who monitor blockchain data mentioning it.
As of today, Ether (ETH) is trading at around $2,306, down slightly (0.2%) over the last 24 hours. CoinMarketCap reports its market value at $278.35 billion, also down a small fraction (0.09%), with $8.48 billion in trades happening over the same period.
The genesis block
Ethereum officially launched on July 30, 2015, with the creation of its first block. Since then, this popular blockchain – known for its ability to run applications – has consistently processed blocks at a steady rate, even with changes to its underlying rules, ups and downs in the cryptocurrency market, and varying levels of user activity.
The network performed exceptionally well, maintaining 100% uptime with reliable block processing. 2022 saw a major upgrade with Ethereum’s transition to proof-of-stake, known as the Merge, alongside other improvements to transaction fees, network access, and validator operations.
Sale of 10K ETH
The Ethereum Foundation recently sold 10,000 ETH privately to Bitmine Immersion Technologies for an average price of $2,292.15 per token, in addition to their continued work on the platform.
The deal is valued at approximately $23.1 million. It was a private transaction, meaning it didn’t take place on a public exchange. According to the foundation’s official statement, this transaction is a standard part of how they manage their funds.
Money raised from the sale will help us fund important work like research, growing our community, and providing grants.
Continuous blockchain operation
As a crypto investor, seeing the blockchain consistently operate – like hitting 25 million blocks – is a really positive sign. It basically shows the network is stable and keeps running smoothly, which is crucial for long-term confidence.
Bitcoin has maintained a high level of operational reliability since 2009, thanks to its straightforward transaction system. Ethereum, however, is more complex with its virtual machine and smart contracts, which introduces new potential weaknesses and makes its uptime record particularly noteworthy.
