We Ranked Every 2026 Kentucky Derby Horse as an Umamusume Character and It’s Surprisingly Accurate

Today marks the 152nd Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs, and it’s a historic event – for the first time ever, a video game company is sponsoring the race. Cygames, the company behind the popular game Umamusume: Pretty Derby, will have its branding prominently displayed on the starting gate, in the winner’s circle, and on the horses’ saddle towels. The game, which became available worldwide in June 2025 and won the award for Best Mobile Game that same year, has even inspired a new generation of gamers to become fans of horse racing.

We carefully paired each of the 19 starting characters with a specific Umamusume character. We considered things like their abilities, how they run, their personality, and even how well their names fit. Some matches were clear, while others took a lot of discussion.

Renegade (4-1) → Special Week

However, there’s a disconnect between those numbers and how much confidence people have in them. It’s reminiscent of Tokai Teio – impressive lineage, a devoted following, but a record that makes you hesitate to fully trust them. Like Tokai Teio’s story, Commandment carries a huge weight of expectation and the potential for a major disappointment. They’re likely to either win convincingly or lose dramatically – there’s no in-between.

Further Ado (6-1) → Silence Suzuka

Silence Suzuka consistently ranks high, showcasing exceptional skill and often leading the competition. She’s a beautiful horse admired by racing experts who speak of her with great respect. Like Silence Suzuka, Further Ado is a front-runner, demanding intense focus and leaving fans breathless from start to finish, constantly wondering when the effort will truly push her to her limit. Owners and trainers dedicate themselves to her preparation, meticulously analyzing every detail, knowing that race day will be a nail-biting experience.

What Order Should You Watch the Umamusume Anime In?

Chief Wallabee (8-1) → Oguri Cap

I’ve been watching Chief Wallabee, and it’s interesting. He’s trained by Bill Mott and ridden by Junior Alvarado – the same team that won last year with Sovereignty. Yet, his current points don’t quite match up with his potential, or his odds. It reminds me a lot of a horse named Oguri Cap – one who always looked like he could be beaten based on the stats, but always had something extra. There’s just a quiet confidence about this horse and the people working with him, a sense that he has hidden potential and could really surprise everyone. It’s that feeling of hidden depths that makes experienced horse players take notice.

Potente (20-1) → El Condor Pasa

Trained by the renowned Bob Baffert – a six-time Derby winner hoping to make history with a seventh – El Condor Pasa possesses the physique and training background that suggest a serious international racing career. Like the character from the famous song, this horse always seemed destined for global success, but remained largely overlooked despite its clear talent.
