Sarada Uchiha Needs A New Power Up For The Next Boruto Arc, But It Shouldn’t Be The Rinnegan

This article reveals key plot points from the Boruto: Two Blue Vortex manga, and also references events from both the original Naruto series and the Boruto: Naruto Next Generations anime. Be warned – spoilers ahead!

The recent arc of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex has finished, but the story isn’t over yet. Now that another clone of the Shinju has been defeated, it’s likely a new one will appear in Konoha, giving Boruto and his friends a fresh problem to solve.

Ever since Sarada Uchiha awakened her Mangekyo Sharingan in Boruto: Naruto Next Generations, many fans have predicted she’ll eventually unlock the Rinnegan, though it seems like a challenging path. Despite this being a natural progression, Sarada shouldn’t receive the Rinnegan in the current storyline, or any future ones.

Sarada Uchiha’s Mangekyo Sharingan Is Broken

Early in the Boruto: Two Blue Vortex manga, Sarada gains a significant power boost thanks to her Mangekyo Sharingan. Although she’d awakened this ability before the time-skip—a result of the emotional hardship caused by her father’s absence—she now demonstrates a new and incredibly strong jutsu exclusive to the Mangekyo Sharingan, called Ohirume.

Ohirume is potentially the strongest ability seen so far connected to the Mangekyo Sharingan. It lets the user create up to four dark spheres that generate gravity. These spheres can pull in anything within her line of sight – people, objects, anything at all. Essentially, she’s bending the rules of physics. She can trap opponents by forcing them against the spheres, explode the spheres for a powerful blast, or even use them to lift herself into the air.

Ohirume is currently believed to be a ninjutsu, but honestly, I’m excited to see if the story might actually reveal it’s shinjutsu instead! It’s still a big mystery how Sarada even developed this technique, and how long she’s been secretly practicing it. I’m really hoping we get some answers soon! Even though she’s still technically a Genin – mostly because she’s so determined to prove Boruto is innocent, thanks to being unaffected by Eida – I’m guessing she’s been seriously training for the last three years. I’m just curious who she’s been training with!

Boruto Recently Showed Ohirume’s Weakness

In the latest chapter of Boruto Two Blue Vortex, Sarada used her powerful Ohirume ability again, but it seems to have a limit. She collapsed after using it twice in a row, confirming a long-held fan theory that the jutsu drains a lot of chakra. However, Shikamaru suspects there might be another reason for her collapse, suggesting it wasn’t just the chakra cost.

She’s still breathing, and it doesn’t seem like her life is in immediate danger. However, I’m concerned about how much the Mangekyo has affected her eyesight.

I noticed a line of blood running down from Sarada’s right eye just before she collapsed. Boruto was able to fix the immediate damage, but it looks like she’s losing her eyesight because of using the Mangekyo Sharingan, and her Ohirume ability probably isn’t helping. It’s worth remembering that Sarada already needed glasses, which makes me wonder if her naturally weaker eyesight means she can’t handle these powerful techniques for very long. Even though the power system in Boruto feels a bit broken at times, it still seems to be showing us that using strong abilities comes at a real cost to the user’s body.

It’s Time to Let Go of the Rinnegan

Many fans believe Sarada will eventually develop the Rinnegan, the most powerful form of the Sharingan. In Boruto: Naruto Next Generations, Sasuke lost his Rinnegan after being injured by Boruto, who was briefly controlled by Momoshiki. Since then, viewers have been anticipating Sasuke regaining his eye. Like the other major eye techniques, the Rinnegan’s powers stop working if the eye itself is damaged.

As a huge fan, I’ve been thinking a lot about how Sasuke could get his Rinnegan back! Honestly, if someone with absolute power – like, truly omnipotent – showed up, they could probably just restore it. It feels like a pretty big mistake to take away his Rinnegan in the first place, and most fans agree! It seemed like it was just done to make Sasuke a little weaker and set up future storylines. But with everyone getting so unbelievably strong now, it really makes sense for him to regain his full power, and I’m hoping we’ll see it happen!

Leaving the Rinnegan out of the story might actually be a good choice. While powerful abilities are common now, that’s just the way the new storyline is going, and we’ve already seen eye techniques, like Boruto’s Jougan, that function similarly to these abilities even when damaged. It would feel repetitive if Sasuke regained his Rinnegan, or if Sarada’s power-up simply involved obtaining the same eye technique as her father. If Sarada needs to become stronger, she needs something unique – like a completely new jutsu, or a rarely-used existing one. Giving her a new power just to fix her eyesight feels underwhelming; it would keep her comfortably powerful without any real challenges or limitations.

Shinjutsu Will Open New Possibilities

In the final episodes of Boruto: Naruto Next Generations, a new type of power called shinjutsu was revealed. According to the character Amado, shinjutsu is considered the original form of all jutsu, with ninjutsu being a weaker version. Currently, only members of the Otsutsuki clan – or those connected to their powers – are able to use shinjutsu, as it’s too strong for normal people. While this new power source offers exciting potential, it also feels like a convenient way to give characters incredibly strong abilities.

Whether you like it or not, shinjutsu is now a permanent part of the Boruto storyline. All the major current plot points – like Eida’s all-powerful abilities and the Shinju Clones – connect to it. Some fans even believe we’ve already seen shinjutsu in the original Naruto series, suggesting Kaguya Otsutsuki’s unique abilities might actually be a form of it. Even though we only know a few shinjutsu techniques so far, like Omnipotence and Prescience, they clearly demonstrate just how incredibly powerful this new kind of jutsu can be.

Boruto’s unique eye ability, the Jougan, remains unexplained, but it’s likely a special visual power linked to the Otsutsuki clan. While his Otsutsuki heritage probably triggered its awakening, it’s unclear why he developed it when others with similar ancestry, like his parents, haven’t. This raises the possibility that Sarada might also develop a visual power connected to her Otsutsuki lineage – perhaps something we’ve already seen, like the Rinne Sharingan, or a completely new ability. Following this pattern, Himawari might eventually unlock the Tenseigan or a more powerful version of the Byakugan.

Sarada Doesn’t Deserve a New Doujutsu Right Now

Sarada might eventually gain a new visual ability to become stronger, but she doesn’t need one at this moment. In fact, it might be beneficial for the story if other characters got more attention for a while. Sarada has already been featured prominently and developed quite a bit, so it’s time to let other characters have their chance to grow and shine.

The next few chapters could really help develop characters like Inojin and Himawari. It would also be great to see the storyline about Shikamaru potentially becoming Hokage take a more central role. For Sarada, it might be best to hold off on focusing on her directly for a while, instead emphasizing her worsening eyesight. If she gains more power, it shouldn’t be through the Rinnegan right now. Any solution to her vision problems should come later, when it truly starts affecting her fighting ability. Introducing a challenge like this only to quickly resolve it with a power-up wouldn’t be very impactful.

If Sarada were to awaken the Rinnegan, it would be best if Sasuke didn’t regain his own. It would be a letdown to see them both with such similar abilities, especially since Boruto is already developing a very different skillset from his dad. Right now, Sarada needs to grow as a character more than she needs more overwhelmingly powerful abilities.

Boruto TBV Chapter 34 Release Date

The newest chapter of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex will be released on May 20, 2026, and you can read it for free on MANGA Plus. Now that Mamushi has been defeated, the story will likely either start a new storyline or move forward by showing what happens after the battle.

Based on what’s happened in the story, it looks like Hidari will be the next villain, and Sasuke will probably return after the current Shinju clone is taken care of. After Hidari’s defeat, only Jura, the most powerful and intelligent of the Shinju, will be left. If Sarada fights Jura, she might reveal a new ability, but hopefully it won’t be another special eye power.

The Boruto: Two Blue Vortex story hasn’t been turned into an anime yet. The Boruto anime is still catching up to the events of the Boruto: Naruto Next Generations manga. You can read the manga in English on MANGA Plus and VIZ’s Shonen Jump.
