Colombia currently gets about 75% of its electricity from renewable sources, with over 21,000 megawatts of capacity, meaning there could be surplus power available. While some believe this could create jobs and boost income in less developed areas, others worry about the cost of electricity and the challenges of providing enough cooling and infrastructure for a large mining operation.
