This week’s Nintendo Direct featured a surprising announcement centered around Fox McCloud and the Star Fox team. Nintendo revealed a remake of the classic N64 game Star Fox for the Switch 2. This new version builds on the original Star Fox game released on the SNES. With it being ten years since the last Star Fox title, fans are eager to learn more about this upcoming release.
Nintendo fans are eager to know the price of this new game, if it supports multiplayer, whether it’s a remake or a completely new story, and how it improves upon the original game from the Nintendo 64. This article has all the answers – and more! Let’s dive in.
Star Fox Switch 2: Release Date and Price Explained
Everyone wants to know how much Star Fox will cost. Will it be as pricey as Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza? The good news is, no. Because Star Fox is a smaller game and likely cost less to make, Nintendo is selling it for a bit less money.
The digital version of Star Fox will be available for $49.99, while the physical copy costs $59.99. Nintendo recently stated that first-party Switch 2 games will be cheaper to download than to buy as a physical cartridge, and Yoshi and the Mysterious Book is the first game to reflect this new pricing strategy.
Is Star Fox for Switch 2 a Remake or a Sequel?
The new Star Fox game for Switch 2 is largely a reimagining of the original Nintendo 64 title. While you’ll still explore the familiar levels and battle the same bosses, it includes a lot of exciting additions. These include fully voiced cutscenes, an online multiplayer mode, fresh challenges and difficulty settings to encourage replayability, and a significant graphical update.
Star Fox Switch 2 Multiplayer and Co-Op Details
One of the most exciting new features in Star Fox is Battle Mode. You can now play online with up to eight players, joining either Team Star Fox or Team Star Wolf in 4v4 dogfights. There are three different maps to choose from, each with unique objectives. On Sector Y, players collect and deliver cargo. Fichina challenges you to gather energy crystals, while Corneria focuses on team-based zone control.
Good news for multiplayer fans! Star Fox supports GameShare, letting you share the game with up to three friends, even if they have an older Switch or Switch Lite. They won’t need to buy their own copy to play with you. Plus, you can play the entire campaign with a friend using just one set of Joy-Cons – one person can fly the Arwing while the other handles the shooting!
