Okay, so I just saw a new report that might give us some real info on the next big Halo story campaign! Apparently, the sequel to Halo Infinite is currently being called ‘Halo Next’ – that’s the codename they’re using while it’s in development. It looks like a recent job posting at Microsoft kinda confirmed it, too. Pretty cool!
The Halo series has faced some challenges recently. Although Halo Infinite‘s multiplayer mode was very popular when it launched in November 2021, and the campaign was considered fun (earning an 87 out of 100 from critics), the game didn’t maintain that success after release. Now, Halo Studios (previously known as 343 Industries) is working to regain fans’ trust, and the new game, Halo: Campaign Evolved, is seen as a potential turning point.
New Job Listing Teases First Details of The Next Halo Campaign
Recent reports suggest that Halo Studios is working on more than just the original Halo: Combat Evolved. Over the past few weeks, YouTuber Rebs Gaming has shared videos detailing what’s been happening at 343 Industries since the release of Halo Infinite in 2021. In a video published on April 27th, titled “The Original Plan For Halo’s Future!”, Rebs Gaming reported that Joseph Staten, formerly the Head of Creative for Halo, announced in a 2022 company meeting that the studio had begun development on a new Halo campaign, initially referred to internally as ‘Campaign Next’.

On May 6th, Rebs Gaming published a new video called “The “Halo Next” Campaign Project!” The 4-minute video reveals leaked information about an early concept for a sequel to Halo Infinite, and suggests that Halo Studios is now developing a new Halo campaign. Rebs Gaming’s source claims that Joseph Staten initially envisioned the sequel focusing on The Endless, the enemy first seen in Halo Infinite.
A recent report from Rebs Gaming discovered a Microsoft job posting from May 6th for a Narrative Design Director at Halo Studios. The position involves shaping the story for a new Halo campaign, currently codenamed ‘Halo Next,’ focusing on plot, characters, and how the story connects to the game. Rebs Gaming believes this confirms that a new Halo campaign is in development. While ‘Halo Next’ shares a codename with a previously planned Halo Infinite sequel Joseph Staten worked on, it’s unknown if any of those original story ideas are still being used now that Staten has left Microsoft.
Rebs Gaming recently reported that Halo Studios is also planning full remakes of Halo 2 and Halo 3. While there’s no official word on when these remakes might be announced or launched, rumors suggest they’ll receive the same graphical and technological upgrades as Halo: Combat Evolved, utilizing Unreal Engine 5.
