We can look forward to highly anticipated titles like Grand Theft Auto 6, Forza Horizon 6, Fable, and The Blood of Dawnwalker, among others. The biggest challenge for fans will be finding the time to play them all!
Most big open-world games, like the highly anticipated GTA 6, usually come out in the fall, assuming there aren’t any setbacks. However, that doesn’t mean players will have nothing to play this summer! Summer 2026 is already shaping up to be full of exciting open-world games, each offering something different. Here’s a look at the most promising open-world titles planned for release between June and August.
The list below only includes genuinely open-world games – not those that just feel open, like Beast of Reincarnation or Echoes of Aincrad – and they all have confirmed release dates for this summer.
Gothic 1 Remake
Coming: June 5
Kicking off the summer gaming season, Gothic 1 Remake brings a beloved classic RPG back to life. If players aren’t occupied with newer games, this remake offers a gritty and realistic open world that operates on its own unique logic. It’s a throwback to the roots of the genre, where progress isn’t handed to you – everything requires effort, every character feels important, and your choices truly impact your reputation.
After a promising public demonstration, development of Gothic 1 Remake appears to be progressing well. The challenge now for Alkimia Interactive, the Spanish studio behind the project, is to successfully update the game for modern audiences while preserving the spirit of the original. To achieve this, the developers have even decided to remove certain features, like mini-games, to better capture the original game’s unique atmosphere and overall feeling.
Solarpunk
Coming: June 8
I’m so excited! After what feels like forever, Solarpunk is finally coming out in a month on both PC and consoles! It’s been a real labor of love – basically made by just two people at Cyberwave over four years – and it looks amazing. It’s a survival and base-building game, so the gameplay will feel familiar, but the world is what really grabbed me. It’s all these incredibly cool, high-tech floating islands, and the art style is just beautiful and really pulls you into the game’s universe. If you’re like me and you’ve been wanting a relaxing, non-violent open-world game where you can just build and explore, Solarpunk looks like it could be perfect!
At its heart, Solarpunk is about exploring the world and building things. Players have a lot of freedom to create bases using different materials and decorations, farm food, and make useful tools. They can also use renewable energy sources – like the sun, wind, and water – to power their creations and automate tasks. The ‘punk’ side of the game introduces features like customizable airships for exploring and collecting resources, and drones to help with transport. Plus, like many other games, Solarpunk lets you team up with friends to build together.

Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced

The upcoming Gothic 1 Remake isn’t the only classic game getting a modern update this summer. Ubisoft is strategically releasing a complete remake of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag, titled Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, without any major competing titles launching around the same time. This means all the attention will be on it. Considering Black Flag is a beloved favorite among Assassin’s Creed fans, this remake has the potential to be Ubisoft’s best release in a long time, especially with the strong sense of nostalgia it evokes.
As a huge fan of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag, I’m seriously excited about Resynced! From what I’ve seen, it looks like the developers are doing everything right. They’re thankfully skipping all the RPG stuff and really leaning into what made the original so great – expanding on the best parts and making it look absolutely gorgeous. What’s even better is it sounds like the playtime will be similar to the original – a good 50-hour adventure, which is perfect. Not too short, but definitely not a massive time commitment! It seems like they’re really understanding what we, as fans, want.
Outward 2
Coming: Summer 2026 (TBA)
Building on the success of the first game, Outward 2 could be the most immersive and enduring open-world RPG available. Nine Dots Studio is keeping the tough, survival-focused gameplay while introducing a larger, more stunning, and more perilous journey to the land of Aurai. With players increasingly enjoying open-world games that don’t hold their hand, Outward 2 is well-positioned to appeal to fans of games like Crimson Desert. It offers a similar experience – no automatic enemy leveling, a genuine sense of exploration, and minimal guidance within a huge and detailed world.
Just like the first game, Outward 2 is designed for players to connect, offering both online and split-screen co-op for a more enjoyable experience. It improves on the original with more adaptable combat, more complex survival features, and more developed groups and storylines. Outward 2 looks set to become a captivating new RPG for fans, potentially keeping players engaged for hours.
Agefield High: Rock the School
Coming: Q3 2026 (TBA)
While summer isn’t typically associated with going back to school, Agefield High: Rock the School could be a fun escape for those feeling nostalgic. Currently, the game is planned for release in the third quarter of 2026, though a specific date hasn’t been announced, meaning it might not arrive during the summer. Still, Agefield High: Rock the School looks like one of the most exciting open-world games set in a school since Rockstar’s Bully, offering players a classic coming-of-age story in a small American town during the early 2000s.
In Agefield High: Rock the School, you play as Sam, a high school student, and can explore the town of Agefield and its surroundings – including the school, town center, and countryside. You’ll enjoy activities by yourself or with friends, manage your responsibilities and hobbies, and try to win the heart of the girl of your dreams. The game features a dynamic schedule where you can choose to attend classes or skip them, and your choices will lead to one of two different endings. While it’s an open-world game, Agefield High: Rock the School offers a focused, shorter experience rather than a lengthy, sprawling adventure.
