How to Get Shrooms in Schedule 1

Okay, so mushrooms – or ‘shrooms’ as a lot of us call them – are one of the things you can ultimately sell to customers in the game. They don’t fetch as high a price as, say, meth, but honestly, they’re super easy to make. I found they’re a really good thing to focus on later in the game when you’re looking for a reliable income without a ton of hassle.

Mushrooms are unique because using them doesn’t actually do anything for players. They’re also one of the least habit-forming items in the game. The main challenge with growing mushrooms is that you’ll need specific lab equipment and ingredients, which we’ll cover in this guide.

How to Unlock Fungal Phil & Shrooms in Schedule 1

  • You can only grow mushrooms after you progress far enough into the Downtown region, which is unlocked by reaching the Enforcer rank.

To get mushrooms, you’ll need to find Fungal Phil, who supplies them in Downtown. First, you must become ‘Friendly’ with either Kevin Oakley or Elizabeth Homley.

You can easily achieve this by promptly providing them with what they ask for, or even anticipating their needs and offering assistance first. After this interaction, they will add ‘Fungal Phil’ as a contact in your phone.

Get exclusive ingredients not available anywhere else in Hyland by messaging Fungal Phil directly on your phone!

Elizabeth is usually found in the narrow alley between the Slop Shop and the Hyland Police Station.

How to Get Mushroom Ingredients in Schedule 1

Ingredient Needed Location
Mushroom Spawn Station Oscar’s Shop
Mushroom Bed Oscar’s Shop
AC Unit Dan’s Hardware
Spray Bottle Dan’s Hardware
Grain Bag Fungal Phil
Spore Syringe Fungal Phil
Mushroom Substrate Fungal Phil

Before you reach out to Fungal Phil, please go to Oscar’s shop in the warehouse and buy these items:

  • Mushroom Spawn Station
  • Mushroom Bed

One Spawn Station is usually sufficient, but Mushroom Beds function more like containers for standard items. If you’re planning a large-scale operation, you’ll need several Mushroom Beds.

Next, head to Dan’s Hardware and buy an AC Unit and a Spray Bottle. You’ll need the AC Unit to keep the mushrooms at the right temperature, and the Spray Bottle is essential for watering your Mushroom Bed.

With the items listed above, it’s time to contact Fungal Phil and order the following materials:

  • Grain Bag
  • Spore Syringe
  • Mushroom Substrate

Here’s a reminder of what you’ll need to grow mushrooms each time. You’ll need one of every ingredient listed.

How to Grow Mushrooms in Schedule 1

  • Head to the Mushroom Spawn Station and place a Grain Bag along with a Spore Syringe in the empty slots.
  • Inject the liquid inside the syringe into the grain bag, and grab Shroom Spawn as the product.
  • Pick a Mushroom Substrate and pour it inside the Mushroom Bed.
  • The substrate will act as a special soil for growing Shrooms.
  • Drop the Shroom Spawn on the Mushroom Bed and repeatedly slice it until you have tiny balls of Shroom.
  • Once you have the Shroom Balls, bury them under substrate.

Sometimes, Shroom Spawn can accidentally fall off the Mushroom Bed. If this happens, you’ll need to restart the process of collecting it from the beginning, as you won’t be able to continue. This issue can also happen with Shroom Balls.

  • Place an AC Unit near the Mushroom Bed.
  • The temperature must be lower than usual, which means you need to switch the AC Unit to the Cooling mode by pressing the blue button.
  • The final step is watering the Mushroom Bed.
  • Fill the Spray Bottle with tap water, and then point at the requested spots and spray some water.
  • Mushrooms grow at a slower pace, and they require plenty of water.
  • As soon as the growth rate reaches 100%, you are ready to pick up the mushrooms using a Plant Trimmer.

You are going to need to water the bed once again when the growth rate reaches 56%.

How to Increase the Quality of Mushrooms in Schedule 1

Following these steps will give you a regular mushroom. To get a higher quality, Premium mushroom, simply add fertilizer to the Mushroom Bed before you water it.

While there’s still room to improve mushroom quality, it will take a little while. You can get the best possible quality by hanging them on a drying rack, but each quality upgrade takes 12 hours of in-game time.

Speed up mushroom drying by using an AC unit set to Heat. This can cut the drying time from 12 hours down to 8 hours – that’s a 33% reduction!

How long it takes to dry mushrooms for the best quality depends on how good they are when you harvest them. If you use Plant Growth Regulator or Speed Grow to get a bigger harvest, the final quality of the mushrooms will be slightly lower. While Speed Grow does make them grow faster, it affects quality similarly to PGR.

How to Add Effects to Mushrooms in Schedule 1

Mushrooms, as they are, can be harvested and sold. But on their own, they won’t have much taste or any special effects – you need to add ingredients to bring out their flavor and benefits.

You can create enhanced mushrooms by combining them with other items in a Mixing Station Mk2. The standard Mixing Station won’t work with mushrooms.

Creating effects often involves experimentation. You can purchase new flavorings from Gas Mart, located near the Car Wash, and combine them with mushrooms to unlock different variations. If you’re already skilled at crafting flavors using Meths, mixing mushrooms with those same flavors will produce the same results.
