NTE Studio Responds to AI Concerns

The team making the open-world game, NTE: Neverness to Everness, has acknowledged using AI tools during development, but says it wasn’t as extensive as some players worry. Some fans expressed concerns about the use of AI-generated content in the game, but the developers assure them those fears are largely unnecessary.

The game Neverness to Everness launched globally on April 28th and 29th, only a week after becoming available in its home country of China. It quickly gained popularity with players and critics alike, earning a 75 on OpenCritic. Reviewers praised its distinctive urban fantasy world, engaging combat, complex gameplay, and compelling story introduction.

NTE Devs Take AI Concerns Head-On

So, like a lot of games lately, Neverness to Everness has been getting some heat about possibly using AI art. Players have noticed things in the backgrounds, ads in the game, posters, and even how some character faces look a bit…off. Well, the developers, Hotta Studio and Perfect World Games, finally addressed it on Twitter. They admitted they did use AI tools to help make some stuff, but said it was only for a small amount of backgrounds and environment pieces. Specifically, they mentioned the ‘Clear Skies in Summer’ event and the ‘Pink Paw Heist’ mini-game. Good news is, they’re already looking at those assets now and planning to redo them, hopefully getting rid of anything that was AI-generated.

The developer behind Neverness to Everness strongly denies using AI to create its characters, emphasizing the hard work and talent of its artists, writers, and designers. They state plainly that all characters, stories, and the game world are entirely human-made. While firmly standing by their team’s work, they also assure players they are listening to and value their feedback.

The announcement about using AI in the game has received mixed reactions. While many players enjoying Neverness to Everness are okay with it as long as it doesn’t lead to job losses for the developers, others are refusing to play the game if it contains AI-generated content. Some have also criticized the development team for not being upfront enough about their AI usage before launch. However, Yang Lei, the game’s executive director and producer, did mention the use of AI before release, explaining it would be limited to things like background atmosphere and reference images.

Public reaction to this news could significantly impact the game’s future, especially since Neverness to Everness is already shaping up to be one of the biggest releases of 2026. Many players consider it a strong rival to popular games from HoyoVerse like Genshin Impact and Zenless Zone Zero. While the exact number of players isn’t public, the game has performed remarkably well on Twitch, racking up over 1.5 million hours of viewership and peaking at over 98,000 concurrent viewers on its first day.
