Pokemon fans hoping for the next generation of games (Generation 10) may have a while to wait, but there’s good news for those who play on PC. Steam offers many games similar to Pokemon, especially from independent developers, that can satisfy fans while they wait. These games often take inspiration directly from the monster-catching gameplay of the Pokemon series.
I’m a huge fan of monster-collecting games, and I’ve been having a blast with titles like Cassette Beasts, which lets you fuse creatures together – plus you can play the whole thing with a friend! I’ve also really enjoyed TemTem, the MMO-style one, and who could forget Palworld? It’s basically Pokemon with guns, and I’ve lost countless hours to it. Now there’s another one coming to Steam, so PC gamers definitely need to keep an eye out for this!
LumenTale: Memories of Trey Has Serious Pokemon Vibes
Get ready for LumenTale: Memories of Trey, launching on Steam May 26th! This game features collectible creatures called Animon – similar to Pokémon – that you can catch and train. The initial release will include around 140 different Animon, each belonging to one of 13 elemental types. As you play, your Animon can evolve and grow stronger. Battles take place one-on-one or in 4v4 team fights, but you can also build relationships with your Animon outside of combat, just like in the Pokémon series that inspired LumenTale.

Trading is a core part of the LumenTale experience, just as it is in Pokemon. Players can exchange Animon with friends or other players online. They can also prepare food to feed their Animon and personalize their own “Anispace” – a customizable home for the Animon they’ve collected, similar to the secret bases in Pokemon Diamond and Pearl.
LumenTale: Memories of Trey is also coming to the Nintendo Switch.
LumenTale has a distinctive art style, combining 3D environments with sprites that resemble classic Pokémon games. This unique look is likely to strongly appeal to Pokémon fans, and it could be a great way to pass the time while they anticipate the next generation of Pokémon games on the Nintendo Switch 2.
The Generation 10 Pokemon Games Are A Long Ways Out
The newest Pokemon games, Pokemon Winds and Waves, were officially announced last February. The reveal showed off the colorful new area players will explore and some of the Pokemon they can catch, including the three new starter Pokemon. While the games are currently planned for a 2027 release, reliable sources suggest they won’t be available early in the year. In fact, we likely won’t hear any further updates about the games until next year.
According to recent leaks, Game Freak and Nintendo likely won’t share any news about Pokemon Winds and Waves until 2027, and the game might not be released until late that year. Some speculate it could be a major launch title for the new Switch 2 console during the holiday season, meaning fans will have a considerable wait. Until then, games like LumenTale: Memories of Trey could help fill the gap for Pokemon enthusiasts.
