Okay, so Sea of Thieves is getting a new PvP event called Last Ship Standing, and it sounds pretty intense! Basically, you and your crew will battle it out against up to five other ships until only one is left floating. It’s launching on May 14th as part of Season 19, Act 3. I’m already prepping my ship!
Since its release in 2018, Sea of Thieves has dramatically improved. While initial reactions were mixed, players quickly fell in love with its unique multiplayer pirate experience. Rare has consistently updated and expanded the game, making it even better over time. Despite a rocky start, many now consider Sea of Thieves to be one of Rare’s greatest achievements, which is saying a lot given the studio’s impressive track record.
Sea of Thieves’ New PvP Event Starts on May 14
Rare recently announced May’s updates for Sea of Thieves in a blog post. The biggest addition is a new mode called Last Ship Standing, launching on May 14th as part of Season 19: Act 3. In this mode, up to six small ship crews will fight to be the last one afloat on the Sea of the Damned, activated using the Hourglass of Fate. Rare has created a special arena for these battles, filled with obstacles and landmarks to make combat more challenging. Players can expect some of the most exciting ship battles Sea of Thieves has ever seen.

In Last Ship Standing battles, the longer you survive, the more Allegiance you’ll earn from the Guardians of Fortune and Servants of the Flame factions. You can also unlock unique, battle-worn cosmetics for your ship in Sea of Thieves. All participants will receive a reward of some kind, but better performance means bigger Allegiance gains. To keep things fair, players in solo or duo Sloops will be matched with others in the same type of ship, ensuring success depends on skill, not ship size.
Last Ship Standing will be available for all of Season 19: Act 3, which ends on June 18th. Don’t worry if you miss it though – Rare has announced the mode will return every month as part of regular in-game events, so there will be future opportunities to play.

I’ve been following Sea of Thieves for a while now, and it’s amazing to see how far it’s come since its rocky start! After eight years, the game is still thriving, and I’m really excited to see what Rare does with Season 20. They haven’t said much beyond Season 19 yet, but I’m hoping they deliver something truly special to celebrate such a big moment.
