In the world of One Piece, Devil Fruits are the main source of power, and the series’ creator, Eiichiro Oda, is always adding new abilities. The latest chapter, 1182, released on May 10, 2026, in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump Issue 24, officially revealed a new, incredibly powerful Devil Fruit ability to fans.
Continuing a trend in the Final Saga, this new Devil Fruit power is a Mythical Zoan – officially confirmed as the rarest type of Devil Fruit in chapter 554. The creator, Eiichiro Oda, has now revealed the ability of another legendary Mythical Zoan: the Risu Risu no Mi, Model: Ratatoskr.
One Piece Confirms A New Mythical Zoan Devil Fruit Called Risu Risu no Mi, Model: Ratatoskr
I just finished reading One Piece Chapter 1182, and a lot happened in Elbaph! It picked up right after Chapter 1179, showing the ongoing battle between Saint Nerona Imu – the World King who arrived there – and Prince Loki. Loki wasn’t alone though; his close companion, Ragnir, was fighting right beside him. Interestingly, Ragnir isn’t just an ally to Loki, but also to the ancient God of War, who we first met back in One Piece Chapter 1175 on March 2, 2026.
Elbaf history, as told by Jarul, speaks of a God of War who could transform into the dragon Nidhoggr. This god was accompanied by Ratatoskr, an Ice Squirrel, and together they battled the Sun God. When the God of War died, Ratatoskr took possession of his hammer and became known as Ragnir. It was recently revealed in One Piece chapter 1182 that Ragnir ate the Risu Risu no Mi, a Devil Fruit based on Ratatoskr. This Mythical Zoan-type fruit is legendary and grants the user the powers of the mythical Ice Squirrel, including immense strength, resilience, and the ability to control ice.
Nerona Imu said to Ragnir, ‘If you had remained as you were before, you would still be waiting for someone new to take charge.’
Chapter 1182 of One Piece revealed that Nerona Imu is directly connected to Ratatoskr, the Ice Squirrel. After seeing the squirrel again after 800 years, Imu commented that it hadn’t changed. It was previously shown that Imu was allied with both Nidhoggr and the Ice Squirrel, but the details of how that relationship fell apart – and why Imu now considers the squirrel a traitor – are still unknown.
How Ragnir Ate The Risu Risu no Mi Model: Ratatoskr In The Past
Most Devil Fruits in the world of One Piece are eaten by people or other living creatures. However, it’s also possible to give Devil Fruits to inanimate objects. This was first discovered by Vegapunk and revealed during the Arabasta arc in chapter 184 of the manga, originally released in 2001. Since then, we’ve seen several examples, like Spandam’s sword, Funkfreed, consuming the Zou Zou no Mi, and a hammer named Ragnir eating the Risu Risu no Mi, Model: Ratatoskr.
This is incredible new technology! Apparently, on the Grand Line, even things that aren’t alive – like objects – can gain powers by eating Devil Fruits! – Ms. Merry Christmas, One Piece Chapter 184
Ragnir, nicknamed ‘Iron Lightning,’ can generate powerful electricity and summon lightning strikes when using its Nidhoggr ability. After the God of War of Elbaph died, the spirit of Ratatoskr somehow entered Ragnir, granting it the abilities of an Ice Squirrel and effectively making it a Devil Fruit user. This transfer likely occurred near the end of the Void Century, as Ragnir has been protecting Elbaph’s legendary Devil Fruit for hundreds of years.
Ragnir remained at Aurust Castle, making sure no one could gain the power of this Devil Fruit. He blocked even powerful figures like Harald and Jarul, and everyone before them. But 14 years ago, during the first battle between the Ice Squirrel and Prince Loki, it became clear that Loki was meant to consume the Ryu Ryu no Mi, Model: Nidhoggr. Since then, Ragnir and Prince Loki have become allies, fighting together with remarkable coordination – a fact confirmed by Imu in Chapter 1182.

All Powers And Abilities Of The Ratatoskr Mythical Zoan Fruit
Ragnir has several impressive powers. The most notable is the Risu Risu no Mi, a Devil Fruit that transforms him into a legendary squirrel. Like other Zoan-type fruits, this one greatly enhances his strength, toughness, healing, and defenses. Because it’s a Mythical Zoan, these abilities are exceptionally powerful. This fruit also provides a unique skill: the ability to create ice.
This Devil Fruit allows the user to instantly freeze opponents, like when Loki froze Gunko in chapter 1178. According to the author, Eiichiro Oda, in chapter 1179, anyone frozen by this fruit cannot be thawed out by any other method – only the user of the fruit can reverse the freezing.
The sudden freeze won’t be fatal, but anyone frozen by Ragnir can only be unfrozen by him! — Loki, One Piece Chapter 1179
The Risu Risu no Mi, Model: Ratatoskr Devil Fruit has a special ability: it lets the user create lightning by crashing ice particles together. This fruit allows the user to generate and quickly fire lightning at opponents. Considering everything, Ragnir’s power, thanks to the Risu Risu no Mi, Model: Ratatoskr, is incredibly strong. He’s demonstrated this by defeating a giant Draugr with a single attack, completely freezing and overpowering Gunko with ice, and even seriously wounding Nerona Imu, causing him to bleed. These feats showcase his impressive fighting skills, particularly when combined with his Nidhoggr Devil Fruit powers.
Loki’s Synergy With The Ratatoskr Power
The Risu Risu no Mi, Model: Ratatoskr’s powerful abilities are significantly enhanced when used alongside the Ryu Ryu no Mi, Model: Nidhoggr. This strong combination is why these two Devil Fruits are always seen together. We saw this 800 years ago with the God of War and the Ice Squirrel, and it continues today with Loki and Ragnir.
Snow… yes, it seems lightning was created when something struck ice. They’ve always been connected. — Nerona Imu, One Piece Chapter 1182
I’ve been watching the battle, and it’s become clear that Ratatoskr has a unique ability – it can actually create lightning. This isn’t just for show; it directly powers up Nidhoggr, who already specializes in massive lightning attacks. Even more surprisingly, Ratatoskr can also generate a freezing mist, allowing Nidhoggr to unleash blasts of frozen lightning, like we saw in chapter 1182. Honestly, everything Oda has revealed so far feels like just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the power of this Mythical Zoan Fruit. I have a feeling as the fight with Imu goes on, we’ll see even more incredible abilities of Ragnir come to light.
