The Legend of Zelda Movie Release Date Has Been Moved Up

Okay, so the Zelda movie’s release date has been a bit of a rollercoaster! It was originally planned for March 2027, then got pushed to May. Now, Nintendo’s moved it again, but this time forward – it’s landing in April 2027 instead. Honestly, it’s like they can’t quite decide when it’ll be ready, but at least it’s coming sooner than May now!

Shigeru Miyamoto, the creator of The Legend of Zelda, announced on X that the live-action movie will now come out on April 30, 2027. This is a week earlier than the previously scheduled release date of May 7. The reason for this latest change isn’t clear, particularly since Sony Pictures had strongly insisted on the May date.

Miyamoto stated on X:

Hi, this is Miyamoto. We’ve moved up the release date for the live-action Legend of Zelda movie from May 7th to April 30th, 2027. Everyone on the team is working hard to finish it a little earlier so you can enjoy it sooner. We’re almost there – just a few more months to go!

Recently, official concept art for the upcoming movie revealed Link (played by Benjamin Evan Ainsworth) in his complete costume, including the Master Sword. The costume appears to draw inspiration from both the “Tears of the Kingdom” and “Twilight Princess” games, though it’s still uncertain if this particular design will be used in the finished film.

I’m so excited! They’re actually filming the live-action movie in New Zealand, and get this – at a lot of the same places they filmed Lord of the Rings! It makes total sense, though. New Zealand is absolutely stunning, with incredible scenery and mountains, so it’s the perfect place to bring Hyrule to life. It’s going to look amazing!

The Legend of Zelda live-action movie is scheduled to hit theaters around the world on April 30, 2027. Wes Ball, who directed Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, will be directing the film.
