As a huge fan of The Dark Pictures Anthology, I’ve always been blown away by how much your choices matter. It’s not just about picking dialogue – your decisions genuinely decide who lives and dies! What’s really cool is that those choices ripple through the whole story, changing scenes, how characters feel about each other, and ultimately, which ending you get. It makes every playthrough feel so different!
In Episode 5 of Directive 8020, while playing as Young, you’ll face a difficult choice: both Anders and Mitchell will be in immediate danger at the same time. You’ll need to decide which one to save. This guide details all the possible results and consequences of your choice in Directive 8020.
This guide contains spoilers related to the story and character outcomes.
Should You Save Mitchell or Anders (Under Pressure) in Directive 8020?
During the mission, you’ll have to choose between saving Anders at the Medical Complex or Mitchell at Fuel Junction 4. Your choice has consequences: saving Anders means Mitchell will be caught in a fire and die. To rescue Anders, you must successfully complete a door override minigame. You have two chances to do so. If you fail, Cooper will eventually open the door himself.
Okay, so if I don’t pick a crew member quickly, Young is going to go down – the fire and smoke will get to her. Then Cooper will help her up, and they’ll head for the Medical Complex to try and save Anders. But the really awful part is, if that happens, Mitchell doesn’t make it. It’s a tough choice because someone’s life is on the line either way.
If you decide to save Mitchell, Young pulls the lever, putting out the flames around Fuel Junction 4 and rescuing him. During this, Anders suffers from the cold and Cooper arrives too late to provide effective help. While she seems to die at first, Anders eventually recovers. Generally, this is the best way to save both crew members.
Okay, so there’s something cool I just figured out. Remember back in Episode 2 when we had to pick between disabling the Landing Computer or Fire Control? Well, if I chose to mess with the Landing Computer instead of Fire Control, things are different here. The fire doesn’t spread as much, which means even if I try to save Anders, Mitchell can actually survive! It’s a nice change, honestly.
