Chapter 1182 of One Piece, released on May 10, 2026, in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump #24, moves forward the story of Roronoa Zoro. After defeating powerful opponents like King and Rob Lucci, Zoro traveled to Elbaph, but realizes he still needs to grow stronger. His goal is to surpass Dracule Mihawk, the world’s strongest swordsman, and he’s seeking the power to do so in this new arc of the story.
In One Piece Chapter 1182, creator Eiichiro Oda confirmed a fight between Zoro and Super Sommers, one of the most powerful characters currently on Elbaph. This battle is expected to be Zoro’s greatest challenge yet, forcing him to surpass his limits and become strong enough to rival the other powerful pirate captains known as Emperors.
Eiichiro Oda Officially Sets Up Zoro Vs Super Sommers In One Piece Chapter 1182
Chapter 1182 of One Piece revealed more about Roronoa Zoro and built anticipation for his upcoming fight with the Holy Knights. In chapter 1180, Zoro attacked Nerona Imu with his signature Three-Sword Style, but Imu proved too strong. Imu used the power of Omen to defeat Zoro and seriously injure him, leaving his condition uncertain. However, chapter 1182 confirmed that Zoro survived and remains determined to help Elbaph. Alongside Goldberg, he’s now traveling to Sea Cloud Port in Elbaph’s Western Village, where the captured children are being taken. There, Zoro will officially begin his main battle on Elbaph against Super Sommers.
“Hey, it’s Super Sommers! I’ve located a massive ship we can use. Get those kids here in five minutes!” — Saint Shepherd Sommers, One Piece Chapter 1182
Super Sommers is an enhanced version of the Holy Knight Sommers, first shown in One Piece chapter 1182. After Luffy and Loki quickly defeated the original Sommers, Zoro was about to finish him off. However, Imu stepped in and used an Omen to dramatically increase Sommers’ power. This upgrade, which Sommers himself describes as an overwhelming surge of strength, not only made him much stronger but also allowed him to fly, transforming him into Super Sommers.
The chapter clearly shows Super Sommers is unbelievably strong – he effortlessly lifted and tossed a Giant’s ship over a waterfall, and that’s just a small glimpse of his full power. Because of this, Zoro’s upcoming fight against him, scheduled to begin officially in One Piece Chapter 1183 on May 24, 2026, promises to be a thrilling battle.
Why The Fight Vs Super Sommers Requires Roronoa Zoro To Upgrade His Conqueror’s Haki And Reach Yonko Level
Super Sommers is an incredibly powerful opponent for Zoro, largely due to a special pact he has with Nerona Imu, the World Government’s leader. This pact gives Sommers immense strength, the ability to regenerate, and effectively makes him immortal. Even without that, his powers would put him among the strongest characters. He also possesses the Iba Iba no Mi, a Devil Fruit that lets him create and control extremely durable thorns in battle – thorns that are difficult even for Zoro to cut. As seen in chapter 1175 of the manga, fire is the only thing that can easily destroy them, as Sanji demonstrated.
I watched as that black flame shifted, becoming actual bullets and bombs – it was incredible, and terrifying. It was clear he was boosting the Knights of God, making them even stronger, and they were already a serious threat. We really need to stop them, and soon, or things are going to spiral out of control.
Sommers was already a powerful fighter, but after receiving a boost from Nerona Imu’s Omen, his strength has increased dramatically. The flaming ring around his head signifies this huge power increase, pushing his physical abilities far beyond human limits – he can even fly now! This makes Saint Sommers a serious threat to Roronoa Zoro. While Zoro’s swordsmanship would normally be enough to defeat an opponent like Sommers, his current power isn’t sufficient. To win against this enhanced version of Sommers, Zoro needs to fully master Advanced Conqueror’s Haki – a key power-up for the upcoming Elbaph arc, as officially revealed in One Piece Chapter 1152 (published June 23, 2025, in Weekly Shonen Jump Issue #30), and confirmed by Scopper Gaban.

How Zoro’s Newly Acquired Conqueror’s Haki Control Will Make Him As Strong As A Yonko
Okay, so chapter 1152 just dropped, and it was HUGE! We finally got official confirmation from Scopper Gaban – the Pirate King’s left hand! – about how to actually beat those Holy Knights. Apparently, regular attacks just aren’t going to cut it. They can heal from almost anything, but attacks infused with Conqueror’s Haki – that Supreme King Haki – are what really messes them up. It slows their regeneration way down, and if you hit them enough times with it, they go down for good. Gaban’s been doing this for years, we even saw him take down Sommers with it back in chapter 1149. It’s awesome to finally have a clear strategy!
I’m so hyped for Zoro’s fight against Super Sommers later this month! It’s amazing to think that Zoro has Conqueror’s Haki inside him, but he hasn’t been able to really use it on his own. Thankfully, Enma helps bring it out! It’s been a total surprise learning he even has this ability. It looks like creator Eiichiro Oda is building towards Zoro finally mastering his Haki during this fight, and using that newfound power to take down Super Sommers, even with the Holy Knight getting a power boost from an Omen. I can’t wait to see it!
“Haki is only effective if you actively focus and control it. How can you possibly protect your Captain, who is one of the most powerful pirates in the world, if you don’t understand that?” — Scopper Gaban to Roronoa Zoro, One Piece Chapter 1152
As a huge Zoro fan, I truly believe his fight in Elbaph is going to be the moment he levels up to become a powerhouse on par with the Yonko! Gaban basically confirmed in chapter 1152 that unlocking the true potential of Haki is all about mastering control, and that’s exactly what Zoro’s going to do. We already saw in chapter 1010 that his raw power can hurt a Yonko, but with improved Haki control, he’ll be able to go toe-to-toe with them all by himself. It’s going to be incredible to witness his ascent!
