How to Make Water in Subnautica 2

Staying alive in Subnautica 2 means finding a reliable source of drinkable water fast. While you’re surrounded by the ocean, saltwater will actually harm you, so you can’t drink it. You’ll need to learn how to create fresh water in the game. There are a couple of ways to stay hydrated, but one method is much better than the other. Here’s everything you need to know.

How to Replenish Thirst Meter in Subnautica 2

You can replenish your thirst – shown by your thirst meter or hydration gauge – in two ways: by eating Water Slugs you find underwater, or by crafting Water using your Fabricator. I’ll explain both methods below, including the advantages and disadvantages of each.

Eating Water Slugs in Subnautica 2

Water Slugs, as mentioned earlier, are commonly found throughout the underwater world of Subnautica 2. These small, blue and pink creatures usually stick to the seabed and other surfaces. I’ve added a screenshot below to help you identify them.

Water Slugs can refill your water, but they also make you hungry. They’re handy when you’re out and need a quick way to restore your hydration, but you’ll need to make sure you have food to eat as well.

It’s much better to create water using your Fabricator. It only takes one Water Slug and instantly restores 40 points to your thirst. Plus, unlike eating a Water Slug, it won’t make you hungry.

Water Slugs are pretty common, so it’s a good idea to collect a lot of them. Bring them back to your lifepod and turn them into water. Keep a few with you whenever you go exploring, and store the rest in your lifepod or base. This way, you’ll always have a supply of water, even if you don’t find any more Water Slugs while you’re out.

You can cook any fish you catch, like a Geordie, in your Fabricator to restore more of your hunger. If you need to eat quickly while exploring, you can also eat it raw.
