How to Release Lifepod Clamps in Subnautica 2

Okay, so starting Subnautica 2, the first thing you need to do is get your lifepod to the surface. The game tells you to release the clamps holding it to the wrecked station, but it doesn’t actually tell you how to do that, or even where the clamps are! It also doesn’t warn you about potential dangers. I was a little stuck at first, so I figured I’d write a quick guide to help you release those lifepod clamps in Subnautica 2, and point out a really easy mistake you can make if you’re not paying attention.

Removing the Lifepod Clamps in Subnautica 2

To remove the lifepod clamps, exit the lifepod and swim around to its back side. You’ll see two levers, each with red or orange lights. Press the ‘A’ button on an Xbox controller, or the ‘X’ button on a PlayStation controller, to release each lever.

Once the clamps are released, the nearby lights will turn blue, and a hatch will open, giving you a view inside the lifepod. Then, simply swim back inside and use the terminal to launch the pod to the surface.

Right now, you don’t have much oxygen and you’re swimming slowly. That means you need to quickly swim around to the back of the lifepod and detach the clamps holding it in place. Once you’ve done that, don’t swim back to the lifepod โ€“ you could run out of oxygen, drown, and have to start over.

Removing the lifepods is pretty straightforward. With the directions in this guide, you shouldn’t have any trouble with your oxygen levels. I actually forgot to check my oxygen meter and spent some time exploring, nearly running out! Don’t bother looking around outside the lifepod for anything else โ€“ there’s nothing useful there yet. Just release the clamps and head back inside to begin your real underwater journey.

Okay, so once you’re safely back in the lifepod, the first thing you need to do is talk to that cute little AI orb. Just tell it you’ve released the clamps, and that’s it! That finishes up that part of the game and lets you really start exploring โ€“ which is what I’ve been waiting for!
