In Subnautica 2, you can learn to make a Flashlight by scanning two Flashlight Fragments while exploring the ocean. Once you’ve scanned both fragments and unlocked the blueprint, the Flashlight will become available to craft using the Fabricator.
The Flashlight is a vital tool in Subnautica 2 for seeing in dark areas. It’s incredibly useful when exploring underwater caves, shipwrecks, and other structures, particularly at night.
All Flashlight Blueprints in Subnautica 2
You can find two Flashlight Fragments near the Lifepod, within 30 meters. They’re hidden inside broken metal containers in the caves around the area.
Flashlight Blueprint #1
From the Lifepod, locate the large cave entrance directly below. Dive to the bottom of the cave, close to the Acid Raion, and scan the Flashlight inside the metal container to obtain the first Flashlight Blueprint Fragment.
Flashlight Blueprint #2
Starting from the Lifepod, head east. You’ll quickly see a big rock formation about 30 meters ahead. Swim through the hole at the top of the formation to find the second piece of the Flashlight Blueprint. It’s inside an open metal container, partially hidden within the rock that creates the entrance to a deeper cave.
In Subnautica 2, you can find pieces of the Flashlight Blueprint in various shipwrecks and abandoned settlements. While the two locations mentioned earlier are easy to reach at the start of the game, it’s possible to discover and scan a different fragment to complete the Blueprint.
How to Craft a Flashlight in Subnautica 2
After you’ve unlocked the Flashlight Blueprint, you’ll be able to craft it at any Fabricator:
| Item | Crafting Station | Recipe |
|---|---|---|
| Flashlight | Fabricator |

Titanium is found on the ocean floor and in caves, while Quartz is located within Coral Domes – large, circular, orange coral formations.
Okay, so I figured out how to make Basic Batteries! You need two Copper and one Acidic Raion Pouch. You get the pouches by harvesting those weird, bright purple, brain-shaped plants in the Safe Shallows caves – thankfully, my Survival Multitool does the trick. Both the Copper and those plants are pretty easy to find down there, so it’s a quick crafting run!
How to Use a Flashlight in Subnautica 2
Put the Flashlight in one of your quick slots and equip it. Then, turn it on using the buttons shown on the screen. Keep in mind that the Flashlight only works when it’s in an active quick slot. If you switch to another tool like the Scanner or Survival Multitool, the Flashlight will automatically turn off.
In Subnautica 2, both the Wakemaker—a vehicle designed for faster swimming—and the Tadpole come equipped with their own built-in flashlights that players can turn on and off as needed.
The Flashlight is most useful when you first start playing and during the middle part of the game. After you unlock the Wakemaker, you likely won’t need the Flashlight anymore. This is because inventory space is limited, and you can only carry a few tools at a time, so it’s better to use those slots for more powerful items.
