McDonald’s Japan Reveals Saint Seiya Collab

To celebrate its 40th anniversary, the popular manga series Saint Seiya is teaming up with McDonald’s Japan! Saint Seiya has sold over 50 million copies and is one of the best-selling manga ever, alongside hits like Inuyasha, YuYu Hakusho, and Nana. As part of the anniversary celebrations, this unique collaboration features special menu items and limited-edition packaging for fans to enjoy.

Originally published in Weekly Shonen Jump from 1985 to 1990, Saint Seiya tells the story of five warriors who fight while wearing powerful armor based on different constellations. They’ve sworn to protect the goddess Athena and must battle other gods who want to control the Earth. The series was first adapted into an anime in the late 80s, followed by an OVA series in 2002 and six animated films. A live-action movie came out in 2023. A spin-off manga, Saint Seiya: Next Dimension, ran from 2006 to 2024. Today, on May 14th, fans are celebrating the release of Saint Seiya: Heaven Chapter, with the first chapter appearing in Weekly Shonen Champion.

McDonald’s Japan Reveals Three New Sandwiches for Saint Seiya Collaboration

Starting May 20th, McDonald’s Japan is launching a limited-time menu featuring three new regional sandwiches and special breakfast items! The sandwiches – the Hokkaido Potato & Cheese Teriyaki Burger, Nagoya-style Juicy Black Pepper Tebasaki Chicken Sandwich, and Hakata Mentaiko Butter Teriyaki Burger – will come in unique packaging showcasing characters from the popular anime Saint Seiya. A new Hokkaido Potato & Cheese Teriyaki McMuffin is also available for breakfast, and fries will be seasoned with black curry flavor inspired by Kanazawa. Comedian Seiya from Shimofuri Myojo is starring in promotional ads for the collaboration, dressed for the occasion.

The 40th anniversary of Saint Seiya is being celebrated in a variety of ways, beyond just this special collaboration. A new story arc, Saint Seiya: Heaven Chapter, has begun in Weekly Shonen Champion, and new Saint Seiyathemed pachinko machines are appearing across Japan. An official art exhibit is also planned for 2027. Toei Animation recently refreshed the Saint Seiya* section of their website with a new illustration and anniversary logo, leading fans to speculate about a possible new anime series.

The classic anime Saint Seiya is still beloved by fans and all 114 episodes are now available on Crunchyroll. The series’ initial writer, Takao Koyama, also contributed to other popular anime like Urusei Yatsura, Dragon Ball, and Slayers. Its iconic opening theme, “Pegasus Fantasy,” has been re-recorded by numerous artists over time.
