This time, the game takes players to Japan – a location fans have been asking for! Initial reviews have been fantastic, with an average score of 91 on the review site OpenCritic. Players have already been enjoying the beautiful Japanese landscapes in Forza Horizon 6 since early access began on May 15th.
Forza Horizon 6 Breaks Steam Player Count Record While in Early Access Period
Data from SteamDB shows that Forza Horizon 6 had over 178,000 players online at its peak during early access. This is a new record for the Forza Horizon series, more than twice the peak of 81,096 players that Forza Horizon 5 reached. Notably, Forza Horizon 5 launched on Steam at the same time as other platforms, meaning this impressive number isn’t due to a delayed release. It’s simply a result of strong excitement for Forza Horizon 6.
This record is likely to be broken again soon. Because only players who bought the Premium Edition have early access to Forza Horizon 6, a much larger group of players who purchased the standard version will start playing on May 19th, the official launch date. While we don’t know exactly how many people pre-ordered the base game, it’s clear that Forza Horizon 6 will be the most played game in the series on Steam once everyone has access.
Following a strong launch and positive reviews, Forza Horizon 6 is now the third game of 2026 to achieve a score above 90 on OpenCritic. This places it among the year’s best titles, alongside critically acclaimed games like Lost and Found Co. and Pokemon Pokopia. The game’s quality is clear, and many are now wondering if it will receive award nominations later in the year.
