With the success of revamped classic cartoons, the introduction of fresh young heroes, and established favorites getting their own shows, the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s growth on Disney+ has also allowed for some truly unique projects. These are presented under the ‘Marvel’s Special Presentations‘ banner, which aims to showcase new ideas, experiment with different genres, and highlight characters fans may not know as well. From spooky, black-and-white horror to fun holiday adventures, these special presentations are a surprisingly great part of the Marvel franchise.

Now that Frank Castle has had his own special with The Punisher: Last Kill, fans are curious about what Marvel’s Special Presentations might offer next. There are lots of possibilities, including introducing popular characters, trying out different storytelling styles, and exploring ongoing or future issues within the Marvel universe.

5. Luna Snow is a Prime Candidate For a Special Presentation

The upcoming Wonder Man film explores how established superheroes affect the movie business, and Marvel sees potential in replicating the success of a relatively new character: Luna Snow. First appearing in the Marvel Future Fight mobile game and later debuting in comics in 2019, Luna Snow is a K-Pop star who gains ice powers after an attack by A.I.M. during a concert. Although new to Marvel’s comic universe, her inclusion in the Marvel Rivals game has quickly made her popular, positioning her as a strong contender to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

With popular shows like KPop Demon Hunters and the upcoming The Vampire Lestat proving audiences love pop stars with hidden supernatural abilities, Marvel has a chance to create their own version with Luna Snow. A special presentation starring Luna Snow could be presented in a fun, mockumentary style – think What We Do In The Shadows or This Is Spinal Tap – similar to the unique approaches taken by The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special and Werewolf By Night. This would not only introduce a potentially popular character to the MCU, but also broaden the universe’s possibilities and allow for more creative storytelling.

4. Mystique’s Special Presentation Would Be a Unique Opportunity For the MCU

Mystique, a well-known character played by Rebecca Romijn and Jennifer Lawrence in the X-Men movies, is joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) in Avengers: Doomsday, with Romijn returning to the role. After the events of Avengers: Secret Wars, the MCU is expected to introduce a new cast of actors to play Marvel’s mutants as the story explores the growing mutant community. Like in the comics, Mystique is a long-lived character who has seen the emergence of the mutant species, Homo Superior.

Instead of having the upcoming X-Men reboot explain the origins of the X-Gene, a special presentation focused on Mystique could be a great way to introduce it. This presentation could establish a new version of the character and her villainous motivations, while also showing how the X-Gene first appeared through her early encounters with Mr. Sinister when she was disguised as Sherlock Holmes in Victorian England. The presentation could be visually distinct from other Marvel movies by combining the styles of historical dramas and detective stories, offering a fresh take on the character. Because audiences are already familiar with Mystique from previous films, she’s a strong candidate to lead her own project.

3. Captain Britain Stories Could Lay a Foundation For the X-Men

As a huge X-Men fan, there’s one character I’m really hoping Marvel explores: Captain Britain! He’s been around since the 70s, and lots of different heroes have taken on the role. The original, Brian Braddock, gets his powers from a magical amulet given to him by Merlyn, and he’s not just a hero for Britain, but for the whole multiverse! At first, he was mainly focused on protecting the British Isles, but he eventually teamed up with other heroes and became a key member of Excalibur, a fantastic X-Men spin-off team. I think he’d be a great addition to the MCU!

Although Captain Britain is connected to a well-known Marvel team, he might not be popular enough to carry his own movie. However, his potential role as a protector of the multiverse could be a great way to introduce new X-Men characters after the ‘Secret Wars’ event and establish clear rules for the multiverse in future films, avoiding similarities to the Time Variance Authority. If this initial presentation is successful, there’s a good chance the character could appear in more projects down the line.

2. Nova Could Be the MCU’s Answer to the DCU’s Green Lanterns Series

A long-running unanswered question for Marvel fans is what happened to the Nova Corps. First appearing in Guardians of the Galaxy, the group was largely destroyed by Thanos before the events of Avengers: Infinity War, and hasn’t been featured in the cosmic side of the MCU since. Interestingly, early drafts of Avengers: Infinity War considered introducing Richard Rider as the only surviving member of the Nova Corps, a concept that Marvel could potentially explore further.

The comics have already set up Nova’s introduction after the Nova Corps was destroyed, giving the MCU a foundation to bring the character to life and explain what happened. A Nova project, if done well, could stand out from other cosmic heroes in the MCU by portraying Rider as a classic, purely heroic space adventurer, unlike the more rebellious Guardians of the Galaxy. This would offer a fresh perspective on the MCU’s cosmic side and potentially compete with the upcoming Lanterns series from the DC Universe.

1. The MCU Can Celebrate Its Stories By Releasing a Marvels-Inspired Presentation

By 2027, when Avengers: Secret Wars is released, the Marvel Cinematic Universe will be nearly 20 years old, with over 40 films and 33 TV shows. For new fans, getting up to speed on everything will be a huge challenge, even if they only focus on the most important stories. After Secret Wars, Marvel could use its ‘Special Presentation’ format to create a guide to the MCU’s key events, inspired by a popular comic book series.

The comic series Marvels, created by Kurt Busiek and Alex Ross, told the story of the Marvel Universe through the eyes of an ordinary man, photographer Phil Sheldon, as he documented the rise of superheroes and major events. To help new viewers understand the vast Infinity Saga and the ongoing Multiverse Saga, the Marvel Cinematic Universe could create a similar story, featuring their own version of Sheldon witnessing these key moments. Given that the MCU will be celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2028, a *Marvelsinspired project could be timed to both commemorate the past two decades of storytelling and set the stage for what’s coming next.
