New Farming Simulator on Steam is a Photorealistic Stardew Valley

Stardew Valley is a truly special video game, and it’s easy to see why it’s become so popular. Made by a single person, known as ConcernedApe, the game is loved in part because of its memorable characters. Players can build relationships with these characters, even finding romance and getting married. But beyond the characters, Stardew Valley’s success really comes down to its engaging and addictive farming system. That’s what allows it to appeal to both casual players and fans of role-playing games. Since creating characters as well as ConcernedApe is a challenge, other games on Steam inspired by Stardew Valley often focus on perfecting the gameplay itself.

The Steam game Hillshade Farm focuses on giving players complete control over every part of their farm, unlike some other farming games that emphasize character relationships. While Stardew Valley fans who enjoy building connections with characters might not be as interested, Hillshade Farm could appeal to those who haven’t fully committed to Stardew Valley. Some players find Stardew Valley’s pixel art charming, but others prefer more realistic graphics, and Hillshade Farm delivers a visually modern experience for those gamers.

Per Hillshade Farm’s Steam page, interested players will be able to pick up the game on May 21.

Hillshade Farm is As Immersive as Farming Sims Can Get

Hillshade Farm is a beautiful game with incredibly realistic graphics – the buildings, animals, and plants all look very lifelike thanks to detailed textures and lighting. Like Stardew Valley, the game features a day/night cycle and changing seasons, including weather like snow and thunderstorms. These elements aren’t just for show; they actually impact gameplay, so players need to carefully plan and use all the game’s features to succeed as a farmer.

In Hillshade Farm, players can raise over 20 different kinds of animals, each with its own unique personality. These animals provide valuable resources that can be sold or traded at the Animal Market. Of course, the game also includes a wide variety of crops to grow and sell at the farmer’s market. To help players manage their farm efficiently, they’ll have access to vehicles like tractors and ATVs for quick travel and faster production.

Although the farming itself promises to be enjoyable and diverse, we know building a beautiful farm is just as important. Luckily, players will have access to a huge variety of decorations and pre-built structures to customize their farms. Many of these items can even be interacted with, adding an extra layer of fun. Combined with six different crafting stations for things like smelting and cooking, Hillshade Farm should offer hours of engaging gameplay. Just like other popular farming games, we plan to continue adding new content and features over time.

Hillshade Farm Will Only Get Better With Age

Hillshade Farm will be available through Steam’s early access program for about a year, during which time the developers plan to significantly expand the game. Planned improvements include more farming equipment, vehicles, customization options, realistic physics, and deformable terrain. The good news is the price won’t increase after the early access period, so players can wait for the full release without paying more. The developers also plan to actively involve the community through suggestions and polls, making the early access process potentially very engaging. If you’re looking for a realistic, first-person farming simulator – a different experience than games like Stardew Valley – Hillshade Farm appears to be a great fit.
