Devil Fruits Are The Bread And Butter Of The Series

Devil Fruits are the most well-known and earliest part of the power system in One Piece. Simply put, they’re magical fruits that give anyone who eats them special abilities. These powers can be incredibly strong – even capable of world-altering destruction – or, in some cases, practically useless.

Devil Fruits are easily the most recognizable power source in the series, appearing right from the beginning and remaining central to the story with many key characters relying on them. To keep things interesting, the author, Oda, has divided these fruits into three types, each with its own unique advantages and disadvantages.

Early in the One Piece series, certain powerful Devil Fruits – especially the Logia type – became increasingly difficult for characters to overcome. To address this, the author, Oda, introduced Haki. While Haki was actually present in the story from the beginning, it wasn’t fully explained or revealed until much later as a representation of a user’s willpower.

Haki is arguably the most useful ability in One Piece. It’s essential for navigating the latter part of the Grand Line, and it can be combined with both Devil Fruits and other powers. There are three main types of Haki, and each one has unique strengths and even more advanced techniques.

Conqueror’s Haki is the strongest type of Haki, a powerful spiritual force that lets someone dominate the wills of others, potentially even knocking out weaker opponents. It’s incredibly rare – only about one in a million people are born with it, and it can’t be learned. Skilled users can enhance their attacks with Conqueror’s Haki and even counter the ability to see into the future.

Weapon Usage Is Perhaps The Most Common Power System

A major moment in the story of One Piece happened during the Elbaf arc when Nerona Imu, the true ruler of the world, finally appeared. His reveal showed a terrifying, demonic form and a power level beyond anything seen before, particularly when he demonstrated his strange ability called ‘Maki’.

Currently referred to as Omen, many One Piece fans speculate that Imu has unveiled a powerful, dark ability that counters Haki. This power seems to be linked to Imu’s demonic qualities and is currently exclusive to him and his followers. While details are scarce, there’s a strong possibility this could evolve into a completely new power system within the series.
