Once you finish exploring the first area in Subnautica 2, you’ll reach the Angel Ruins, a place filled with strange alien buildings covered in mysterious symbols. To understand these symbols, you need to learn the Axum language. This starts by crafting the Feedback Resonator and completing the Alien Ruins Angel Comb. Then, you can get the Axum Vision upgrade and visit the Rosetta Stone to fully decipher the alien language in Subnautica 2.

How To Read Alien Symbols In Subnautica 2

To translate the Axum language in Subnautica 2, you must first:

  • Clear the Alien Ruins Angel Comb and get the Axum Vision adaptation
  • Scan the Rosetta Stone to decipher the alien language

Once you obtain the Axum Vision Adaptation in Subnautica 2, you’ll start noticing yellow markings throughout the Alien Ruins area. If you point your cursor at these markings and see a red “Translation Failed” message, it simply means you haven’t learned the alien language yet in Subnautica 2.

Return to the Alien Ruins and walk about 235 meters in a direction between south and southwest – around 195 degrees. You’ll find a tall, thin building covered in glowing green symbols.

When you get close, you’ll find a square with an octagon on top. Use your scanner and point it at the octagon – this will give you the option to scan the Rosetta Stone.

Okay, so after I checked out the main inscription on the Rosetta Stone, I walked around the whole thing and noticed it’s covered in these weird alien symbols everywhere! Apparently, it works just like our Rosetta Stone – it’s meant to help you understand a language you don’t know. It’s like a key to unlocking their writing, which is pretty amazing!

I’ve been digging into the backstory, and it’s really fascinating! Apparently, the creatures who originally inhabited this planet actually asked humans – they refer to us as ‘architects’ – for assistance. It adds a whole new layer to everything!

Now that you’ve learned the Axum language, you can continue with the main quest. Your next goal is to reach the observatory, but first you’ll need to repair the alien power generator. To do this, head to the large structure above the Angel Comb ruins in Subnautica 2, and then go inside the two alien buildings connected to the cliff.

You might also need to repair the generator, so it’s a good idea to gather some resources from Subnautica 2, such as Troilite, beforehand.
