PlayStation Confirms Single-Player Games Won’t Come to PC Anymore

Following reports from Jason Schreier months ago, Sony has now confirmed that future single-player games will be exclusive to PlayStation. While games that offer ongoing services (live-service titles) may still be released on PC, all new single-player releases will no longer come to PC.

According to a recent post by Schreier, PlayStation boss Hermen Hulst told employees in a meeting on Monday that future single-player games from PlayStation will once again be exclusive to their consoles and won’t be released on PC. This change comes after Sony started releasing some of its popular first-party titles – like God of War, Horizon Zero Dawn, and Ghost of Tsushima – on Steam earlier this year.

PlayStation has changed course on its plans to release games on PC. According to a report by Jason Schreier, PC sales of PlayStation games may not have met expectations. Several factors could be contributing to this, including Sony’s practice of releasing PC versions a year or more after the initial PlayStation 5 release. As a result, upcoming titles like Marvel’s Wolverine, and recent releases like Saros and Ghost of Yotei, will reportedly no longer be released on PC.

Sony is trying to revitalize the PlayStation brand after a difficult period with the PS5. The previous CEO, Jim Ryan, focused heavily on games designed as ongoing services, but most of these projects never launched, and some, like Concord, actually hurt PlayStation’s image. While Bungie’s Marathon is performing reasonably well, and the upcoming Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls will be released on both PS5 and PC this August, Sony is now shifting its strategy.

Even though there aren’t many live-service games available yet, we can expect more to be released on PlayStation and PC in the future.
