Back in March 2026, Schreier initially reported that Sony was considering a shift in strategy. Sources indicated that PS5 games hadn’t performed as well on PC as hoped, and releasing games on multiple platforms could harm the PS5’s brand and future console sales. A report from Alinea Analytics in November 2025 supported this, showing that sales of games like God of War Ragnarök and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 on Steam weren’t as strong as previous installments.

Since 2020, Sony has been releasing popular PlayStation games like God of War, The Last of Us, Marvel’s Spider-Man, Horizon, Uncharted, and Ghost of Tsushima on PC through Steam. In 2024, the PC version of Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut was the first to include PlayStation features like trophies, PSN profiles, and friends lists via a special PlayStation overlay. Also in 2024, Sony tried to make a PSN account mandatory to play Helldivers 2 on PC, but faced strong criticism and ultimately removed the requirement.

As a PlayStation fan, I just heard some big news about future games! It looks like Sony is really focusing on keeping its big, single-player exclusives on PlayStation. That means games like the Ghost of Tsushima sequel, Ghost of Yōtei (coming in October 2025), won’t be released on PC. And it’s not just that one – Marvel’s Wolverine from Insomniac, Naughty Dog’s Intergalactic, and even a new shooter called Saros will be PlayStation 5 exclusives too. Even though Housemarque’s Returnal did come to PC, it seems like that was a one-off. If you want to play these games, you’ll need a PS5, which currently costs around $600, or $650 if you want the version with the disc drive.

PlayStation’s Jim Ryan discussed focusing on single-player games, but that doesn’t affect their multiplayer releases. Popular titles like Helldivers 2 are available on both PC and Xbox. Marathon, a new shooter from Bungie, launched in March 2026 and has a large PC player base – analysts estimate around 70% of players are on PC. Another upcoming game, Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls, will release on PC in August but won’t be available on Xbox. Guerrilla Games’ multiplayer title, Horizon Hunters Gathering, is still on track for a PC release as planned.

Before a new policy is fully implemented, two single-player PlayStation games are likely to be among the last released on PC for a while. Death Stranding 2: On the Beach came to PC in March 2026. Kena: Scars of Kosmora, a sequel to Kena: Bridge of Spirits created by Ember Lab, will be available on PlayStation 5, Steam, and the Epic Games Store, and is being published by PlayStation. The first Kena game was originally released on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC in 2021, and later became available on Xbox and Nintendo consoles.

This policy doesn’t include games that are temporarily available only on one console, like the Final Fantasy 7 Remake series. It also doesn’t apply to games made by independent developers that Sony helps publish, as seen with Stellar Blade. While the first game was co-published by Sony, the developer, Shift-Up, plans to publish the sequel, Stellar Blade 2, on its own, which could mean it won’t be exclusive to PlayStation. In other news, Sony has announced plans to use artificial intelligence more widely throughout the company, including in the development of games made by its own studios.
