In the world of Dragon Ball, the Dark King is the most powerful rank a demon can achieve. It’s both a title and a transformation that makes its holders incredibly strong – surpassing almost everyone in the series, even those who aren’t demons. Especially in Super Dragon Ball Heroes, Dark Kings are immensely powerful, posing a threat to entire universes and capable of fighting even Goku and Vegeta at their absolute strongest.
I’ve been studying the strongest demons in Dragon Ball, and it’s clear that becoming a Dark King isn’t easy. It’s reserved for only the most powerful. The transformation itself, powered by something called the Dark Factor from the Demon Realm, completely changes how a demon looks and gives them an incredible power increase—far beyond anything we typically see in Dragon Ball Super. Interestingly, even those known as Supreme Demon Kings seem weak in comparison if they haven’t achieved this full Dark King form. They’re technically Dark Kings, but not truly powerful ones.
5. Honorable Mention: Dabura Ruled the Demon Realm as the Supreme Demon King
Before Babidi controlled him with magic, Dabura was the powerful ruler of the Demon Realm. While Vegeta was able to fight Babidi’s control, Dabura wasn’t strong enough mentally and became Babidi’s loyal servant, helping him try to revive Majin Buu.
Dabura’s power was comparable to Super Saiyan 2 Gohan and Super Perfect Cell from the Cell Games, but he consistently lost to Tamagami Number One when they fought in the Demon Realm. When Dabura left the Demon Realm, it created an opportunity for Gomah to take over as the new Supreme Demon King. Although Dabura never fully mastered the Dark King transformation, he held the title of Dark King simply by being the Supreme Demon King.
4. Honorable Mention: Gomah Forced Goku Into Using Super Saiayn 4
Similar to Dabura, Gomah achieves the rank of Supreme Demon King without ever becoming a Dark King. However, Gomah’s Giant transformation functions similarly to the Dark King form. When Gomah fully utilizes the Tertian Oculus, he receives a massive power increase that is comparable to Super Saiyan 4 Goku’s strength.
Additionally, when Gomah uses the Tertian Oculus, he essentially becomes immortal. The giant form of Gomah can only be defeated by hitting the back of his neck three consecutive times. Without doing so, Evil Eye Gomah is unbeatable and can heal from any attack – he even withstands the incredibly powerful Transcendent Kamehameha from Super Saiyan 4 Goku.

3. Demigra is the Supreme Kai of Time’s Greatest Rival
Demigra is a key villain in both Dragon Ball Xenoverse and Super Dragon Ball Heroes. As the main enemy of Chronoa, the Supreme Kai of Time, he’s a powerful threat determined to control time itself, and he nearly succeeds by becoming a Dark King.
Dark King Demigra is incredibly powerful, capable of fighting even the strongest forms in Dragon Ball Super, like Super Saiyan Blue and Ultra Instinct Sign. He easily defeats Super Saiyan Blue Goku during their battle in the Supreme Kai of Time Saga. While Demigra grows stronger the more he uses his Dark Factor ability, he’s ultimately stopped before he can reach his full potential.
2. Mechikabura is Immortal & Nigh-Unstoppable
Mechikabura is a rare immortal character in the Dragon Ball universe. While already strong, his most dangerous ability is absorbing anything – even abstract ideas. He serves as the primary villain in the Dark Empire and Dark King Mechikabura Sagas of Super Dragon Ball Heroes.
Mechikabura began as an elderly man determined to regain his youth and, with it, his former strength. When he transforms into Dark King Mechikabura, he becomes a powerful Demon God. Because he can’t die, Dark King Mechikabura is unbeatable in direct combat—even the incredibly strong Super Saiyan 4 Vegito couldn’t defeat him. Ultimately, the only way to stop him was for Chronoa and Super Saiyan God Xeno Trunks to combine their powers and seal him away using the Key Sword.
1. Fu is One of the Most Powerful Demons & Dark Kings in Dragon Ball
Fu is a powerful artificial demon and the son of Towa, considered one of the strongest characters in the entire Dragon Ball series – he’s even capable of battling Ultra Instinct Goku. When Towa gives him the Dark Factor, Fu fully becomes a Demon King and the rightful heir to Dabura’s throne in the Demon Realm. Absorbing the Time Birds, Dogidogi and Tokitoki, transforms Fu’s Dark King form, making him younger and incredibly powerful.
This version of Dark King Fu is incredibly powerful, with some even comparing him to Zeno. He’s strong enough to withstand attacks from Super Full Power Saiyan 4 Limit Breaker Xeno Gogeta without being instantly defeated. By absorbing the energy of the Universe Tree, Dark King Fu becomes one of the strongest beings in the entire multiverse. He only loses because CC Goku is an overwhelmingly powerful character who defeats him with an Extreme Kamehameha.
