With the current season of Marathon nearing its end, Bungie is updating the game with a new Warden Hunt, offering a revitalized and more satisfying experience. Season 1, which launched in March, has been a valuable learning opportunity for the developers, as game director Joe Ziegler explained in a recent blog post. Looking ahead, Bungie has big plans for Marathon and is adding more enjoyment to the standard extraction gameplay as the season concludes.
Player feedback has been incredibly helpful for Bungie as they continue to develop their new shooting game. Despite some challenges, like fewer players and financial pressures, Bungie has shared ambitious plans for the game’s future, starting with Season 2. These plans include a new PvE (player versus environment) mode, and another mode with only a small amount of PvP (player versus player) action. They’re also working on making matchmaking and the overall player experience better, giving players more storage space, and improving how new players learn the game. Before Season 2 launches, Bungie will focus on making the rewards you earn in the game more satisfying.
Bungie recently updated Marathon, making some significant changes to gameplay. As hinted by Joe Ziegler, these updates are designed to give players more to enjoy before the Season 2 account reset on June 2nd. The locations of Warden points of interest on Perimeter, Dire Marsh, and Outpost have been randomized, so they won’t appear in the same spots each time. Plus, defeating Wardens will now always reward players with locked room keys, and Key Templates are now considered ‘Compromised’ instead of ‘Fragile’. Bungie also suggests a new enemy type will be added soon.
Bungie has updated the game to make each playthrough feel more distinct and now ensures a special event happens every time. It’s a great time to complete any unfinished contracts or quests, as players will earn 50% more Runner Level and Faction XP until the end of Season 1. Defeating enemies is also more rewarding, with increased XP gains – UESC Commanders now give 15 XP, standard troops award 10 XP, and Wardens grant a substantial 50 XP. Even scanning and transporting drones will now earn you 10 Traxus XP.

The final section of the Marathon map, Cryo Archive, is now available to play anytime. Bungie is keeping it accessible daily until June 1st, and will be running Ranked Cryo matches from May 24th to 27th. Plus, the rewards available from Cryo Archive’s Sponsored Kits are now refreshed each day, so players can try for new items without the worry of losing their current ones.
Now might be a good time to start playing Marathon with all the current bonuses available, but remember that Bungie will still reset player progress at the end of each season. Bungie has hinted that Season 2 of Marathon will include a lot of new content, like nighttime maps and a feature called The Cradle, which lets you customize your runner’s abilities. We should find out all the details very soon.
