Before it was officially named “Super Saiyan 2” during the Majin Buu Saga, this transformation was initially called Super Saiyan Grade 5 in early Dragon Ball materials. Super Saiyan 2 is a very powerful form that blends the immense strength of the Grade 3 transformation with the precise Ki control of Full Power Super Saiyan. It’s so effective that Goku and Vegeta continue to use it even after gaining the even more powerful God Ki in Dragon Ball Super.
Super Saiyan 2 is a remarkably effective transformation, potentially even stronger than Super Saiyan 3 and capable of competing with God forms. Characters in both Dragon Ball Super and Super Dragon Ball Heroes have demonstrated incredible skill with this form, achieving power levels that rival the most impressive transformations in the entire series. When mastered, Super Saiyan 2 becomes incredibly powerful, allowing users to accomplish feats once believed to be exclusive to the gods.
8. Super Saiyan 2
Users: Gohan, Goku, Vegeta, Future Trunks, Cabba, Caulifla
Transforming into a Super Saiyan 2 multiplies a fighter’s power by 100, making it twice as strong as the original Super Saiyan form. Gohan was the first to achieve this level, unlocking it after seeing Android 16’s sacrifice. Goku didn’t reach Super Saiyan 2 until he trained in the afterlife, and Vegeta needed Babidi’s energy to unlock the transformation.
Super Saiyan 2 is a perfect transformation for Goku and Vegeta, becoming their go-to Super Saiyan form after they achieve it. Throughout Dragon Ball Super, they frequently use it to gauge whether their opponents are strong enough to require the more powerful God Ki. In the Goku Black Saga, Future Trunks shows he mastered Super Saiyan 2 after the Supreme Kai died, giving him the strength to defeat Dabura before Majin Buu could return in his timeline.
7. Full Power Super Saiyan 2
Users: Future Trunks
While Super Saiyan 2 doesn’t significantly drain energy like some transformations, it can still be improved with practice. Just like Goku and Gohan honed their Super Saiyan 1 skills in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, Future Trunks begins training to perfect Super Saiyan 2 after achieving it during the Majin Buu Saga.
In the Dragon Ball Super manga, Future Trunks travels to the past and has a practice fight with Goku. During this fight, Trunks first shows off his Full Power Super Saiyan 2 transformation. This form is incredibly strong – strong enough to fight Goku on equal footing, even when Goku is a Super Saiyan 3. Goku ultimately has to use his Super Saiyan God form to win, and even then, Trunks isn’t completely defeated, demonstrating the immense power of Full Power Super Saiyan 2.
6. Enraged Super Saiyan 2
Users: Vegeta
I remember watching Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods and being surprised to see Vegeta briefly become stronger than Goku. This happened before Goku achieved Super Saiyan God. When Beerus hit Bulma, Vegeta flew into a rage, powering up to what I’d call an ‘Enraged Super Saiyan 2.’ It was incredible – he became so fast that he actually managed to hit Beerus multiple times and even draw blood!
Goku’s Super Saiyan 3 form proved ineffective against Beerus, as he couldn’t even land a hit and was defeated easily. Vegeta, fueled by his intense anger as a Super Saiyan 2, fought much better, even surpassing Goku’s power level in that form – Master Roshi noted this himself. While Vegeta’s Super Saiyan 2 wasn’t enough to injure Beerus, the power increase he gained from it was significantly greater than what Goku achieved with Super Saiyan 3.
5. Super Saiyan Rage
Users: Future Trunks
Super Saiyan Rage is a unique transformation seen in the Dragon Ball Super anime, used exclusively by Future Trunks. It’s a powered-up version of Super Saiyan Blue, built on the foundation of Super Saiyan 2 but enhanced with God Ki. Before the fight against Zamasu and Goku Black, Future Trunks trained with Super Saiyan Blue Vegeta, allowing him to adapt to and absorb some of Vegeta’s God Ki. This is comparable to how Vegeta initially learned to use God Ki through his training with Beerus, though on a smaller scale.
Okay, so the fight with Fused Zamasu was intense! You see, Future Trunks has this hidden God Ki inside him, and when things got desperate, it finally burst out! It didn’t just give him a power-up, it transformed him into something completely new – Super Saiyan Rage! Honestly, it was incredible. He became way faster than Zamasu, and he actually cut him in half with the Sword of Hope! Can you believe it? He did what Vegito, Goku, and Vegeta couldn’t! It’s a real shame Zamasu was immortal though, because even with that amazing victory, Trunks’ timeline still ended up being erased. It was a bittersweet moment, for sure.
4. Ultimate
Users: Gohan
The Supplemental Daizenshuu is a guide to the Dragon Ball Z anime that provides additional details about the show’s history and background. It surprisingly defines Gohan’s Ultimate form as simply a more powerful version of his Super Saiyan 2 transformation, specifically calling it “Gohan-type Super Saiyan 2.” This idea is supported by the Dragon Ball manga, where the Old Kai instructs Gohan to unlock his full potential in a way that’s similar to becoming a Super Saiyan.
Gohan’s Ultimate form unlocks his full potential, essentially becoming his new normal state. Unlike regular transformations like Super Saiyan 2, he doesn’t need to strain to achieve it and gains a much greater power increase. By the end of Dragon Ball Z, Ultimate Gohan was the most powerful character excluding fusions. Later, in Dragon Ball Super, even after a short training session with Piccolo, he’s strong enough to battle evenly with Super Saiyan Blue Goku.
3. Super Saiyan Rosé 2
Users: Goku Black
The Crimson-Masked Saiyan is a powerful alternate version of Goku Black. He’s destroyed 99 different versions of Goku across many timelines. Unlike the original Goku Black, he was warned about his own defeat by Fu. Before he could be eliminated, he escaped to another timeline, donned a special Time Breaker Mask given to him by Fu, and rapidly grew into one of the strongest beings in the entire multiverse.
I was watching Super Dragon Ball Heroes and saw something incredible! The Crimson-Masked Saiyan actually achieved a new form – Super Saiyan Rosé 2 – during his battle with Xeno Bardock. It’s a really interesting transformation, because it combines the energy of Goku Black with the power of a god and a standard Saiyan, all built on top of the Super Saiyan 2 base. Surprisingly, this new form puts him at roughly the same power level as Xeno Bardock himself, which is a huge deal considering Xeno Bardock is way stronger than the Bardock we know from the main Dragon Ball story.
2. Legendary Super Saiyan 2
Users: Kefla
Kefla, created by the Potara fusion of Caulifla and Kale, is the strongest fighter in Universe 6. In the Dragon Ball Super anime, she’s significantly more powerful than her manga counterpart because Caulifla achieves Super Saiyan 2 during the Tournament of Power. This results in Kefla’s Legendary Super Saiyan form being a mix of both Legendary Super Saiyan 2 and regular Super Saiyan 2 transformations. Notably, Kefla is the only character in the series officially able to become a Legendary Super Saiyan 2.
Kefla, in her Legendary Super Saiyan 2 form, was a formidable opponent, able to fight evenly with Goku when he first accessed Ultra Instinct Sign. She nearly defeated him, but Goku quickly learned to control the technique and won. However, in a close battle, Kefla had the potential to push Goku past his limits, forcing him out of Ultra Instinct and defeating him before her fusion ended.
1. Berserk Super Saiyan 2
Users: CC Goku
Berserk Super Saiyan 2 is a powerful transformation that occurs when a Super Saiyan 2 is exposed to a dark, corrupting energy called Evil Aura. In the Super Dragon Ball Heroes series, Goku briefly achieves this state after being influenced by Cumber’s Evil Aura. This Berserk form of Goku is strong enough to overcome Super Saiyan Blue Vegeta, as seen in the Prison Planet Saga of the manga.
Berserk Super Saiyan 2’s appearance varies depending on the artist, but it generally looks like a regular Super Saiyan 2, often including the signature single bang from Super Saiyan 2 Goku. A key difference is the energy effect: instead of the usual blue aura, BSSJ2 is surrounded by black lightning. It’s important to understand that much of this form’s power comes from the immense strength of the character CC Goku, rather than the Evil Aura itself. In other words, BSSJ2 wouldn’t be nearly as powerful if used by a weaker character.
