New Soulslike Game on Steam is Bloodborne Meets Alice in Wonderland

A new Soulslike game called Project Rabbit recently launched on Steam. It’s a dark fantasy action RPG that reimagines the classic tale of Alice in Wonderland. This game marks the first release from NovaFlare Games, a studio located near Seoul, South Korea.

Although its action-RPG gameplay will help Project Rabbit stand out, many video games have drawn inspiration from Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland before. These games range from direct adaptations of the Disney film, like the one in Kingdom Hearts, to darker takes on the original story, such as Alice: Madness Returns, and even games that are only loosely based on the source material, like Alicemare. Over the years, Alice in Wonderland games have explored many different types of gameplay, including third-person action, point-and-click adventures, and visual novels.

Project Rabbit Is a Soulslike Reimagining of Alice in Wonderland

Project Rabbit is an action RPG with challenging, Souls-like gameplay, set in a dark and twisted version of Alice in Wonderland, as described on its Steam page. The game’s story takes place in the ‘Abyss of Time,’ a bizarre world formed when different dimensions merged. This world was imprisoned by the Blood Queen, who now governs a land of immortality where creatures don’t age or die.

In terms of gameplay, Project Rabbit seems to deliver a classic Soulslike experience. Players will need to rely on dodging, blocking, and different combat abilities to defeat enemies who are falling into insanity. The game also encourages players to create their own unique fighting style, offering a huge number of weapon, gear, and skill combinations to experiment with.

Unlike most games in the Soulslike genre, Project Rabbit will include a system where players collect valuable items during gameplay and then need to safely return to base to keep them – similar to an extraction shooter. Players can explore the game’s world, called the Abyss of Time, either solo or with friends, though it’s unknown if this means AI companions or full cooperative play. There’s currently no confirmed release date for Project Rabbit.

Project Rabbit Seems to be Following in Lies of P’s Footsteps

Released in September 2023, Lies of P has a lot in common with the upcoming Project Rabbit. Both games reimagine a well-known character from childhood stories – Pinocchio – with a darker twist. Like Project Rabbit, Lies of P features challenging, Soulslike gameplay. Interestingly, the developers of Lies of P*, Neowiz and Round8, are also located in South Korea.

Released in 2023, Lies of P has quickly earned a reputation as one of the best “Souls-like” games not made by FromSoftware. Critics love it, giving it an average score of 82 on OpenCritic with an 88% recommendation rate. The game has also been a commercial success, selling over 4 million copies by March 2026. Now, Neowiz has announced that a sequel to Lies of P is officially in development.
