I Need Assassin’s Creed Hexe to Be ‘Assassin’s Creed Hexe’ Exactly

Assassin’s Creed: Hexe was revealed during a Ubisoft event in September 2022, and it’s easy to forget that ‘Hexe’ is just a working title. However, if the rumors and leaks are accurate, even partially, ‘Hexe’ would be a fitting and ideal subtitle for the game, perfectly representing its core themes and direction.

Many fans feel the same way about the potential title Assassin’s Creed Hexe, as Redditor Snoo-55788 recently shared. The name sounds good, and the word “Hexe,” which means Witch in German, perfectly highlights the game’s setting and connection to the Wurzburg Witch Trials – it’s a term the fanbase already uses frequently. Even the abbreviation, AC Hexe, is visually appealing. While some have suggested “Coven” as a possible title, Hexe is generally preferred. There’s some worry the codename might change, but it could easily remain the final title.

Assassin’s Creed Hexe Has a Real Chance to Remain AC Hexe

Game developers often use code names for projects to keep details secret. For instance, it’s rumored the main character in Assassin’s Creed Hexe is actually named Anika, while “Elsa” was just a placeholder name used during development. Unlike most projects where code names are temporary, Hexe was publicly announced as Codename Hexe. Interestingly, some fans have noticed that a few games actually stick with their original code names throughout development.

As a big fan, I’ve always been fascinated by the behind-the-scenes stuff with game development. It’s interesting how studios use different names for things internally compared to what we, as players, see. Someone on Reddit, Snoo-55788, started a discussion, and another user, Brilliant_Ideal_5429, shared some of the internal codenames and labels they use for this franchise – it’s really cool to get a peek behind the curtain!

  • Comet for Assassin’s Creed Rogue
  • Victory for Assassin’s Creed Syndicate
  • Empire for Assassin’s Creed Origins
  • Kingdoms for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla
  • Rift for Assassin’s Creed Mirage
  • Red for Assassin’s Creed Shadows

This doesn’t rule out the possibility of the game keeping its current name. A Reddit user pointed out that Assassin’s Creed Unity was initially known simply as “Unity,” and more recently, Assassin’s Creed Jade was first referred to as “Codename Jade.” These examples, particularly Jade, suggest that Hexe might retain its name when official marketing and the game’s full reveal happen.

Look, as a longtime Assassin’s Creed fan, I’ve seen a lot of speculation about the next game, and honestly, “Hexe” has become the name for it within the community. Ubisoft definitely knows this. Messing with that – even if they technically don’t change it, but try to rebrand – would just be a bad move. It wouldn’t cause a huge uproar, maybe, but it would be like hitting the reset button on everything we’ve been talking about. All the theories, discussions, even content creators… it all gets thrown off. Even if they immediately clarified it was connected to the Wurzburg Witch Trials, there’d be confusion. You’d have people hyped for AC Hexe who wouldn’t know it’s actually AC Coven (or whatever the final title is). Honestly, leaving it as Hexe doesn’t hurt anyone, and changing it just creates unnecessary problems.
