Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Director Regrets Its PlayStation Trophies

Naoki Hamaguchi, the director of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, acknowledged that unlocking the Platinum trophy in the game required players to complete a lot of content. He stated that the next Final Fantasy 7 game will address this by making trophy requirements more balanced and focusing on making them fun to achieve.

So, I was reading up on Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, and it sounds like it’s finally coming to Xbox Series X/S and the new Nintendo Switch 2! It’s been a little over two years since it first dropped as a PlayStation 5 exclusive. Good news for Xbox players – the version on Series X will run just as smoothly as the PS5 version. But for Switch 2, they’re using Nvidia’s DLSS tech to try and get it running at a stable 30 frames per second, both when docked and in handheld mode. Hopefully that tech does the trick!

Earning Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth’s Platinum Trophy Was A Bit Excessive

Naoki Hamaguchi, a key figure behind Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, has expressed some regret about how certain trophies were designed. While the game offers a lot of optional content and aims to let players choose their own path, unlocking the Platinum trophy requires completing a second playthrough in Hard Mode. This mode isn’t available until after finishing the game once, making the process feel repetitive for some players. Hamaguchi admitted that the requirements for complete trophy completion might have been a little too demanding in retrospect, as it essentially forced players to perfectly execute every aspect of the game.

Man, getting the Platinum in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth was seriously tough! So, the producer, Hamaguchi, has said they’re planning some changes to the trophy system for Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3. Basically, they’re really thinking about whether earning trophies is actually fun this time, and if they’re not locking players out of enjoying everything the game has to offer. Since Part 3 is going to continue the story from both Rebirth and the original FF7 Remake, I’m curious to see exactly what they’ll do to make sure it’s a blast for us fans.

According to Hamaguchi, the third and final chapter of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake series is nearing completion of its main development. He’s played through it over 40 times to identify and fix any remaining problems. While the game remains on schedule, Hamaguchi has asked fans to be patient as the finishing touches are applied.
