Baldur’s Gate 3 was a huge hit, and its success has led Hasbro to invest a billion dollars in creating more single-player Dungeons & Dragons games. During a podcast interview with The Game Business, Hasbro revealed their plans to capitalize on the game’s popularity, and confirmed they are interested in developing Baldur’s Gate 4, which isn’t unexpected given how profitable Baldur’s Gate 3 was.
It’s always challenging to create a game as popular as Baldur’s Gate 3, and Hasbro faced difficulties from the start. While Larian Studios earned praise for BG3, they’ve chosen to move on to different projects and won’t be developing a sequel, BG4. This means Hasbro now needs to find a new studio to take on the project.
Hasbro Needs a New Studio for Baldur’s Gate 4

Larian Studios made such a fantastic game with Baldur’s Gate 3 that new Dungeons & Dragons content is now being inspired by it. While I thoroughly enjoyed BG3, it would be perfect if Larian continued to develop D&D games for Hasbro – and not just sequels to Baldur’s Gate, but other D&D titles as well.
Many players likely agree with me, especially since Baldur’s Gate 3 was so impressive that it led people to check out Larian’s older games. Building that level of trust with players is rare in today’s gaming world.
Everyone likely has their own ideas about which studio Hasbro should work with, but I’d really like to see studios known for strong storytelling take the lead. ZA/UM, the team behind Disco Elysium, would be an amazing choice, and a Dungeons & Dragons game designed by Kojima’s studio would be incredible – I’d be really excited to play it!
Hasbro Might Not Know What It’s Looking For in a Team
Hasbro recently stopped development on a Dungeons & Dragons video game being created by the team behind Jedi Fallen Order. This suggests Hasbro is still figuring out its plans for D&D games after the success of Baldur’s Gate 3. Because Hasbro had already invested a significant amount of money – potentially part of a billion-dollar investment in single-player games – into this canceled project, that money will likely be lost.
Constantly beginning and then abandoning games could become a real problem for Hasbro. There’s a potential solution – a bit risky, but potentially very beneficial – that the company hasn’t appeared to consider yet.
Man, it’s been rough seeing all the layoffs in the gaming industry lately – so many talented people are out of work. I was thinking, Hasbro’s in a great position to actually do something about it. They could build their own game development team from the ground up. That would be awesome because they could specifically hire people who really know how to make those deep, story-driven single-player games we all love, especially set in the Dungeons & Dragons universes. It just makes sense!

This arrangement guarantees Hasbro a consistent team to collaborate with, and if that team can earn the same level of player trust as Larian Studios, it virtually ensures the games will be successful.
Hasbro has the resources to create its own in-house game development team.
Look, as a gamer, I’m really hoping Hasbro decides to build their own internal development team. I feel for all the skilled devs out there who might be looking for work right now, and it feels like a tough time to find a job. Hasbro’s clearly doubling down on gaming after how well Baldur’s Gate 3 did, so it makes sense to invest in building something long-term in-house. It would take some upfront cost, sure, but I think it could really pay off for them after the Larian partnership ends. We’ll just have to wait and see what they decide, though.
