In “Wind Breaker,” conflicts occur frequently, much like leaves rustling in a forest. The powerful are admired, while the less strong often find themselves in harm’s way. Despite this, some characters excel due to their determination, resilience, and physical abilities, setting them apart from others in terms of strength and enthusiasm for combat.
As a passionate fan, I can’t help but marvel at the incredible displays of strength these characters exhibit, whether it’s in fierce battles or breathtaking leaps, soaring kicks, and more. The Wind Breaker anime series never ceases to amaze as its fighters consistently shatter every barrier they encounter, leaving audiences spellbound worldwide. Truly, there seems to be no limit to their power except for the self-imposed ones in their minds!
8. Kyotaro Sugishita
The Lone Wolf Of Bofurin
- First Appearance: Episode 2
- Affiliation: Bofurin
At Furin High School, where he was known for his grumpy demeanor and made others wary, Sugishita tends to act independently, much like a solitary wolf. Beyond his physical prowess, his devotion to Umemiya, the leader of Bofurin, is exceptional. Those who dare to speak negatively about Umemiya in Sugishita’s presence can expect repercussions.
I had the privilege of witnessing an intense clash between Sugishita and Arima, a member of Shishitoren, their rival squad. Placed against each other, Sugishita proved his might by overpowering Arima with sheer physical strength. In an attempt to disconcert Sugishita, Arima tried to bait Umemiya, leveraging his known vulnerabilities. Yet, the depth of Sugishita’s power was underestimated. Enraged and undeterred by the blow that landed on his cheeks, Sugishita seized Arima by the face and forcefully threw him to the ground, claiming victory in what turned out to be a swift encounter.
7. Suo Hayato
A Master Martial Artist
- First Appearance: Episode 2
- Affiliation: Bofurin
I’m a tranquil fellow, sporting fiery red locks and a dashing black eyepatch gracing my right peeper – yes, it’s a mystical charm housing an ancient Chinese spirit, as I like to put it! You wouldn’t guess it from my cheerful demeanor, but beneath this friendly exterior lies a formidable strength.
Suo isn’t frequently involved in battles, but the one he fought during Bofurin versus Shishitoren was exceptional. Despite usually maintaining a playful attitude, Suo adopts a sharp stare when serious moments arise. In combat, he can be ruthless, easily humiliating his opponent from Shishitoren with ease. Suo is a character who combines power and elegance.
6. Sakura Haruka
A Duckling That Intends To Reach The Top Of Bofurin
- First Appearance: Episode 1
- Affiliation: Bofurin
Since his youth, Sakura, who stood out with his unique half-white and half-black hair, one golden eye and one grey, often faced bullying. His longing for strength grew from this experience. He chose to enroll at Furin High School in Makochi town, a school notorious for its tough students aiming to be the best miscreants. However, he was taken aback when he realized that instead of causing harm, these students were defending the town’s people.
In the encounters against Sugishita and Togame Jo from Shishitoren, Sakura showcased his skills by triumphing effortlessly. Even facing a more formidable adversary, he maintained enjoyment throughout the battle, continuously improving. His actions grew more fluid, and he became quicker in responding to incoming assaults. Although Togame forfeited at the end, thereby awarding Sakura the victory by default, his determination and enthusiasm amplified his perceived strength, making him an intriguing prospect as a powerful character in the future.
5. Kaji Ren
The Reserved But Chaotic Commander
- First Appearance: Episode 1
- Affiliation: Bofurin
In his role as the second-year student leader overseeing the first-year students under the guidance of Hiragi, one of the Four Heavenly Kings of Bofurin, Kaji is frequently seen with headphones on and a stick candy in his mouth. He strives to always uphold the trust and friendship he shares with his peers.
In the series, it wasn’t until later that Kaji got involved in any conflicts. This was when the Bofurin students stepped up to defend one of their own, confronting the unsavory KEEL gang who were known for their bullying ways in town. When he finally joined the fray, his entrance was quite dramatic, and he fought his adversaries with remarkable precision and accuracy. The battle against KEEL unexpectedly exposed a side of him that hadn’t been seen previously in the anime series.
4. Hiragi Toma
The Heavenly King Of The Vaisravana Unit
- First Appearance: Episode 1
- Affiliation: Bofurin
As one of the esteemed Four Celestial Kings gracing Furin High School, I, Hiragi Toma, stand shoulder-to-shoulder with Umemiya in our prestigious roles. Leading the Vaisravana unit, I bear the responsibility that often leaves me looking troubled or tense – a result of the relentless gang activities that frequently give rise to my stomach troubles. Yet, beneath this facade of strain, lies an unyielding warrior, determined and resilient in the face of adversity.
In the face-off between Borfurin and Shishitoren, Hiragi engaged in combat with his longtime friend Suko, whom he’s known since childhood. By demonstrating remarkable composure during their fight, Hiragi earned the right to be ranked second-in-command. Instead of letting emotions take over, he skillfully dodged most of Suko’s attacks, only then moving forward casually. He kept his words to a bare minimum throughout the battle. With a calm demeanor, Hiragi eventually ended the fight and gracefully exited the stage.
3. Togame Jo
Shishitoren’s Second-In-Command
- First Appearance: Episode 3
- Affiliation: Shishitoren
From his struggle against Sakura, it’s clear that Togame fights more for Choji than he does for himself. Since Choji aspired to be the top fighter at school, the burden of leadership weighed heavily on him. Therefore, Togame assumed the role of making difficult decisions within their team, allowing Choji to maintain his youthful spirit and innocence while continuing to fight.
In simpler terms, their encounter with Sakura was not so much a balanced fight but rather a situation where Togame dominated, demonstrating his exceptional combat skills. Despite yielding in the end, he would have emerged victorious if Sakura hadn’t made him view himself differently at the crucial moment.
2. Choji Tomiyama
The Feared King Of Shishitoren
- First Appearance: Episode 4
- Affiliation: Shishitoren
Choji Tomiyama, head of the Shishitoren group, aimed to become the most powerful individual in his school, believing that Umemiya’s position held the key to true happiness. However, once he achieved his goal, he found power to be dull and the throne uninteresting. As time went on, he started instilling fear among his followers, harshly disciplining the weaker ones, secretly hoping that one of them would grow strong enough to challenge him.
In the fierce confrontation against Umemiya, Choji demonstrated his colossal strength, a character he admired. With his rapid movements and forceful blows, Choji’s combat skills are unmatched by most, except for Umemiya who prefers to settle disputes verbally but possesses enough might to make his words “speak” through his fists.
1. Umemiya Hajime
Bofurin’s Numero Uno
- First Appearance: Episode 3
- Affiliation: Bofurin
In the “Wind Breaker” anime, it’s Umemiya who stands out as the most formidable fighter. He leads the group Bofurin, with his four trusted lieutenants, often referred to as the Four Divine Generals of Bofurin. Umemiya is a laid-back character who usually takes things in stride and finds pleasure in everyday activities like farming. Whether it’s cultivating potatoes or red peppers, he finds happiness in life’s simple moments.
In the anime series, Umemiya stands out as the superior fighter not only because of his physical strength, but more so because of his exceptional mental fortitude. He possesses an uncanny knack for instilling a sense of security and significance in those around him, demonstrating his deserving status at the pinnacle. His battle against Choji Tomiyama serves as a testament to his potential victories over every character currently featured in the series.
