
In Battlefield 6, Carbines are designed for medium-range combat, falling between Assault Rifles and SMGs. They handle like SMGs but visually resemble Assault Rifles, and surprisingly, they can often be effective at both very close and long distances where other weapons struggle.
So, Battlefield 6 has been getting a lot of tweaks since launch, and Season 3 really shook things up with the Carbines. Some of my favorite guns got recoil changes, which totally shifted which ones are the best. If you’re wondering what Carbines are worth using in BF6 Season 3, I’ve put together an updated guide on each one!

This ranking of BF6 Carbines is based on how well each gun performs overall, taking into account even the smallest differences. The highest-ranked weapons aren’t necessarily better than the others, but they’re generally the most versatile and useful in most typical BF6 matches.
M277
I think the M277 is the best Carbine in BF6 because it performs reliably. It does 25 damage to the chest at distances up to 70 meters, and even beyond that, it still does a solid 20 damage per shot. Very few automatic weapons in BF6 maintain that much damage at long range, making the M277 effective on any map, consistently.
The M277 has the most recoil of any Carbine, though it’s improved since the beginning of BF6. While still noticeable compared to other Carbines, a Season 2 update made it very effective at quickly eliminating enemies up to 40 meters away. A small recoil adjustment at the start of Season 3 didn’t significantly impact this improvement.
To get the most control over the M277, especially when using a controller, I highly suggest using the Lightened Suppressor and Classic Vertical Grip. These attachments will significantly reduce the gun’s recoil.
SG553R
The SG553R performs almost as well as the M277. While the M277 has slightly stronger recoil, the SG553R feels more stable and is easier to control. At extremely close range, the SG553R can eliminate an enemy with just three shots, which makes it a great choice for players who like to rush into close-quarters combat. The SG553R can still eliminate with four shots up to 20 meters, but its damage decreases at longer distances.
As a player, I’ve found the SG553R really shines when you’re up close and pushing enemies – it just feels more powerful and reliable in those chaotic, run-and-gun fights. But if I’m holding down a position, taking careful shots from cover, or trying to get a long-range pick, the M277 is definitely my go-to. Honestly, it’s tough to say which gun is better overall – maybe the M277 is a bit easier to use with a controller, but really it comes down to what feels best for you. I think it’s one of those things where personal preference is key!
M4A1
In close-quarters combat, the M4A1 is incredibly effective, easily competing with any other weapon designed for fights within 20 meters. Its incredibly fast firing rate allows players to quickly overwhelm opponents, and while it doesn’t have the same long-range killing power as the SG553R, the M4A1 maintains a strong time-to-kill at close range without significant drawbacks.
Honestly, the M4A1 is a great gun, but its recoil is what keeps it from being the best. It doesn’t have as much kick as some other rifles, but because it shoots so fast, it bounces around a lot – even when I’m just tapping the trigger. That makes it tough to use at longer ranges. Anything past about 30 meters, and I feel like I’m just spraying bullets and giving away my location. It’s really a close-to-mid-range weapon for me.
GRT-BC
The GRT-BC performs very similarly to the M4A1. While this BF6 Carbine doesn’t fire quite as fast, it has much more stable recoil. This allows players to accurately eliminate enemies with a sustained burst from a medium range. It’s also effective in close quarters, with a fire rate of 830 rounds per minute and bullets that deal 25 damage within about 8 meters.
The GRT-BC in BF6 is a strong weapon, but it has a few drawbacks: it reloads slowly, bullets don’t travel very fast, and damage decreases noticeably over longer distances – a common issue for carbines. Think of it as a longer-range alternative to the M4, similar to how the M277 functions alongside the SG553R.

QBZ-191
The QBZ-191 is a versatile carbine, excelling in a variety of situations. Like other automatic weapons in Battlefield 6, it deals 25 damage with a fire rate of 771 RPM (similar to the DRS-IAR, PW5A3, and M16A4). It’s a dependable weapon on any map, offering a good balance of damage and manageable recoil, though it performs best when you avoid close-quarters combat.
The QBZ’s bullets lose damage over distance, making it harder to quickly eliminate enemies. At 20 meters, it takes 5 shots to kill instead of the expected 4. Beyond that, it takes at least 7 shots. Despite this, the QBZ can still be effective if you use its accuracy and stability to your advantage.
M417 A2
Okay, so the M417 A2 feels like it tries to be both the M277 and the SG553R, but doesn’t quite nail either one. It’s not as consistently accurate as the M277, and it’s not as fast-firing as the SG553R. But honestly, I think that’s okay because it’s way easier to control when you’re shooting, which is a huge plus. Plus, the bullets still pack a punch at longer distances compared to the SG553R, and it can still get a three-shot kill up close – within about 8 meters, which is pretty good.
The M417 A2 has just two main drawbacks: its small standard magazine size of 20 rounds, and its tendency to have a lot of visual recoil (bloom). While the M277 shares these issues, it allows players to get useful attachments to fix them more quickly. Additionally, the M417 A2’s slightly slower rate of fire – 654 rounds per minute – makes it a little less effective in direct confrontations compared to the M277 and SG553R.
AK-205
The AK-205 is a niche weapon, best suited for specific situations. While it’s the slowest gun for taking down enemies at typical combat ranges (20-40 meters), it’s incredibly accurate and has almost no recoil. This makes it ideal for quietly flanking opponents or providing cover from a distance. In my extensive experience with the game, I’ve only succeeded in close-quarters combat with the AK-205 by shooting from the hip and moving erratically.
The AK-205 is designed as a long-range weapon, and it’s one of the few guns in the game that can use Synthetic Tips. These special bullets significantly boost headshot damage, making a skilled player with an AK-205 and Synthetic Tips a major threat to the opposing team.
SOR-300SC
Even though the SOR-300SC is last on this list of best BF6 carbines, it’s not a terrible weapon. It seems like it would be good for medium-range fights due to its slow fire rate and manageable recoil, but its damage drops off quickly at longer distances. Surprisingly, it actually performs best in close-quarters combat.
The SOR-300SC is great for fast-paced, close-quarters combat if you focus on speed and hipfire. It has a manageable fire rate that keeps shots accurate even when firing from the hip, and with the right upgrades, you can consistently hit targets up to 20 meters away without aiming. In extremely tight spaces, the SOR-300SC is a tough opponent because you can shoot accurately while moving – jumping, running, sliding, or even sprinting with a Hand Stop. It’s similar in playstyle to the MP18 from Battlefield 1.
