Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced Dev Explains Why There’s No Multiplayer

The upcoming remake, Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, will focus entirely on the single-player story of Edward Kenway, with added story content and updated gameplay. It won’t include the multiplayer features from the original game. The original Black Flag, released in 2013, was a significant shift for the Assassin’s Creed series, building on the naval combat introduced in Assassin’s Creed 3 and making it a central part of the experience. This success led Ubisoft to create Black Flag Resynced as a complete remake.

Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced reimagines Edward Kenway’s adventure in the Caribbean during the Golden Age of Piracy. The game boasts dramatically improved graphics and combat, along with an expanded story and more developed characters. Ubisoft describes it as the definitive Edward Kenway experience, but it’s worth noting that the Freedom Cry DLC, a major part of the original game, won’t be included.

Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced Will Fully Focus on Edward’s Journey

Just like previously hinted, and confirmed by Creative Director Paul Fu, Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced will be a purely single-player game focusing solely on Edward Kenway. Ubisoft has also stated that there won’t be any sections set in the modern day, removing the Abstergo storyline. While some players may be disappointed that the Freedom Cry content isn’t included, most of the Assassin’s Creed community is pleased with the decision to remove the modern-day Abstergo portions of the story.

Paul Fu explained that Black Flag Resynced is designed as a story-focused game, with a complete overhaul of both land and sea battles, all while staying true to the original 2013 game’s spirit. It will remain an action-adventure title without RPG elements like character leveling or gear upgrades. Players will still be able to improve Edward’s weapons and their ship, similar to the original Black Flag, but those concerned it would adopt features from games like Origins, Odyssey, or Valhalla don’t need to worry. Combat will be fast and deadly, with Edward’s hidden blade delivering instant kills, and enemies won’t have excessive health.

Even though the game is a remake, Ubisoft still plans to add new content to Black Flag Resynced. One exciting addition will be pets – Edward Kenway will be able to find, tame, and keep cats and monkeys aboard the Jackdaw, and many fans are hoping for parrots too. The remake will also improve combat with new enemies and make the game’s pursuit sections less frustrating, potentially allowing players to skip them altogether when completing missions.
