Boruto: 8 Shinobi From The Old Generation Who Are Still Top Tier

I’m really excited about Boruto because it’s all about a new generation of ninja stepping up! It’s awesome seeing characters like Naruto and Sasuke take on mentor roles, guiding these young shinobi as they face challenges that will define their era. It feels a lot like we saw with the original Naruto, where a new generation had to protect everything they cared about, but now it’s their turn to carry the torch!

Many veteran ninja from the earlier series continue to be powerful in Boruto. Even though they aren’t at their peak anymore, their years of fighting have given them incredible skill and powerful techniques, making them a serious threat. They’ve gained experience that puts them ahead of most of the younger generation, despite their age.

8. Sai Yamanaka Runs the ANBU Division

Sai Is Taking on a More Active Role

In the recent chapters of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex, Inojin Yamanaka is gaining recognition, but Sai is still a vital part of Konoha. As the leader of the Anbu, he’s responsible for gathering important information and keeping the village safe.

Naruto needed to be sure Sai was truly capable and trustworthy before assigning him to the ANBU. Sai quickly proved himself by secretly observing Shikamaru and withholding information about Boruto and Inojin. With Inojin now heavily involved, Sai is expected to be a key player in the upcoming battle against Jura and the Shinju clones.

7. Konohamaru Is Ready For a Big Step Up

Konohamaru’s Hokage Dream Still Lives On

Konohamaru has a lot of potential in Boruto, and could become as strong as Naruto, but he doesn’t often get the opportunity to shine. Boruto and Sarada, his teammates, usually take the lead in fights, and Boruto has saved Konohamaru many times throughout the series.

Konohamaru is still Hiruzen’s grandson and a former classmate and competitor of Naruto’s. He demonstrated considerable power during a fight with Matsuri’s clone, almost defeating Moegi’s clone with two powerful Giant Rasengans. He’s also shown to be insightful, quickly understanding Shikamaru’s plans. If he continues to develop his skills, Konohamaru has the potential to gain wider recognition from fans.

6. Shikamaru Nara Holds the Reins of Konoha Right Now

Konoha’s Provisional Eighth Hokage

Shikamaru Nara becoming the Eighth Hokage in Boruto highlights his incredible intelligence, strong leadership, and skill as a strategist and ninja. He’s currently essential to the story, and Konoha would likely fall apart without him. Despite the challenges posed by Eida’s powerful abilities, he continues to make the most difficult decisions for the village.

Even though Shikamaru spends most of his time working in the Hokage’s office, he’s still an incredibly skilled fighter. He demonstrated this by temporarily paralyzing powerful enemies like Momoshiki and Kinshiki with his Shadow Possession Jutsu, forcing Momoshiki to actually absorb the technique to escape. Later, in Boruto, he even withstood a kick from Delta, a strong cyborg created by Amado, proving he can still fight effectively against tough opponents.

5. Gaara Remains Strong Against New Villains

The Current Strength of the Kazekage

Gaara’s character development in Boruto has sparked some surprising debate, especially since a lot of the criticism centered around his well-groomed hair. Despite this, he continues to effectively lead the Sand Village as the Kazekage. Fans generally appreciate his role as a caring mentor to Shinki and the newer generation of ninja in the village.

Even without the One-Tail beast inside him, Gaara remained a powerful ninja capable of battling strong opponents like Momoshiki and Urashiki Otsutsuki. He demonstrated his skill and experience by simultaneously fighting Ryu and Matsuri of the Shinju Clones while also safeguarding his children. Despite Shinki temporarily sealing him away, Gaara’s ability to contend with such formidable enemies highlights just how strong he had become.

4. Rock Lee Can Go as Far as the Eighth Gate

No Big Feats but Still Powerful

Several veteran ninja from the earlier series haven’t had major roles in Boruto, and Rock Lee is one of them, even though he’s become much stronger. Fans have been impressed with his development, particularly in the Boruto anime, where his student, Metal Lee, hints that Rock Lee might be capable of opening the Eighth Gate if truly challenged.

If true, Rock Lee might now be as strong as, or even stronger than, Might Guy in the Boruto series. It would be great to see more focus on Rock Lee and his abilities in the future to really showcase how much he’s improved.

3. Orochimaru Keeps a Low Profile but Remains Dangerous

Orochimaru Doesn’t Age

Orochimaru is a very different character in Boruto. While he still enjoys doing scientific experiments, he now generally stays out of fights and avoids large-scale battles, even when they happen in Konoha. He seems to prefer working on his research and keeping a low profile throughout the series.

Orochimaru isn’t any less powerful, even if he seems more subdued now. He’s still an incredibly strong and effectively immortal ninja, and could likely match the strength of current-day Naruto and Sasuke if he truly focused his efforts.

2. Sasuke Uchiha Still Wields the Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan

Sasuke’s Return to Power Is Near

Seeing Sasuke Uchiha weakened in Boruto is tough for fans, but he’s still a remarkably powerful ninja in Konoha. Despite being turned into a tree and losing his Rinnegan to Momoshiki Otsutsuki, he’s far from helpless.

Sasuke remains a highly skilled Uchiha ninja with the powerful Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan, and he continues to use his classic attacks like Chidori. He also still has his sword, which Boruto had Sumire recently improve, making it a dependable weapon in battle.

1. Naruto Uzumaki Is Sealed but Far from Powerless

Naruto Remains Strong After Losing Kurama

It’s been some time since Naruto Uzumaki last fought. He’s currently trapped within the Daikokuten Dimension, sealed by Kawaki, and unable to escape with Hinata. Inside, time seems to have stopped for Naruto – he doesn’t age, feel hunger, or face any danger, much like a character paused in a video game.

Even though Naruto Uzumaki is in a tough spot after losing Kurama, he’s still a very skilled ninja who can use Sage Mode to fight. While he isn’t as strong as he once was, he’s far from defenseless. Years of fighting and training have made him a formidable opponent. Plus, Katasuke might give him a new prosthetic arm, similar to his old one, that can absorb and release chakra just like Momoshiki Otsutsuki’s ability.
