Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Officially Sets Up Its Next Big Villain After Jura

This article reveals key plot details from both Boruto: Naruto Next Generations and Boruto: Two Blue Vortex, so be warned of spoilers.

The story of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex is reaching a critical moment. As the number of Shinju Clones decreases, the showdown with Jura is approaching, and a new enemy will appear soon after. With so much happening, the series has many different storylines developing at once.

The recent Mamushi Arc, concluding with chapter 33, appears to have set the stage for a major development in Boruto: the transformation of the main character from someone who seemed like the bad guy into a true villain. Still, the story has several other potential directions it could take in future chapters.

Why Jura Will Not Be Defeated So Soon

The Shinju Clones were the first villains introduced in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex, and it appears the heroes will need to defeat them all before they can face Jura. These clones, also known as Human God Trees, are a more powerful form of Claw Grimes, created using the Ten-Tails’ power and Code’s connection to the Otsutsuki clan. Unlike their predecessors, the Shinju Clones aren’t just driven by instinct; they seem to have their own intelligence.

These beings are created using a copy of a real person, who is essentially trapped and transformed into a powerful, tree-like entity. They appear to gain traits and energy patterns from the person they were copied from. Each of these entities has a specific target – in Jura’s case, it’s Himawari Uzumaki, the current host of the Nine-Tails, though he originally focused on Naruto, the previous host. At the heart of each being is a ‘Thornsoul,’ a strange object that remains intact even if the body is destroyed. This Thornsoul can be used to bring the being back to life, but more importantly, it holds the key to freeing the original person it was copied from. If the original person is rescued, the copy disappears completely.

— Clues

Initially, there were five Clones, but three have been defeated. Ryu and Matsuri are dead, which means the people they were holding captive have been freed, and Mamushi is currently unable to fight. This leaves only Hidari, who is based on Sasuke, and Jura, modeled after the Ten-Tails, still active. The story will likely reveal what happens to Mamushi’s special ability, Thornsoul, in the next chapter, and many fans anticipate the return of Bug, the original source of that ability. However, the remaining Shinju Clones could act before then.

It seems like Hidari is setting up to be the next big bad, and after that, we’re probably heading towards the final showdown between Jura, the leader of the Shinju, and Boruto’s team. Right now, Boruto and the others just aren’t strong enough to beat Jura, so they’re going to need to get significantly more powerful. Plus, Konoha is still recovering from the recent attacks and needs time to rebuild and figure out a plan. I’m hoping this gives Himawari a chance to really shine! While it’s going to be a while before Jura is defeated, the story is definitely moving forward, and there are a lot of interesting possibilities for new enemies and conflicts.

Boruto Seems Fated to Become a Villain

Although Mamushi wasn’t the most powerful of the Shinju Clones, his ability to create a massive number of duplicates caused serious problems for Konoha while he searched for Eida. With around forty copies attacking the village, Shikamaru organized a large-scale, secret operation. He needed help from Koji and Boruto, but had to keep their involvement hidden to avoid revealing their alliance. Mamushi was such a threat, however, that even those reluctant to work with Boruto eventually agreed to cooperate.

The situation wasn’t just difficult for the Konoha shinobi; Boruto also understood he couldn’t defeat Mamushi, even with his new skills like the Uzuhiko Rasengan and his own take on the Flying Raijin. Mamushi had too many powerful clones, putting Boruto in a tight spot. Desperate, Boruto reached out to Momoshiki, who was sealed inside him. Although Momoshiki had implanted his Karma mark on Boruto, he was annoyed that he couldn’t actually control Boruto’s body and was stuck simply being sealed away. Boruto proposed a deal: he would cooperate with Momoshiki if Momoshiki would lend him some power.

— Momoshiki in Boruto TBV

Okay, so things are getting really interesting! We still don’t know exactly what Boruto and Momoshiki agreed on, but Momoshiki seemed genuinely shocked by Boruto’s offer, which makes me think it’s something pretty dark. Considering Boruto is so focused on preventing all those terrible futures Koji Kashin foresaw, it makes sense he’d risk a huge deal to try and change things. The whole thing is terrifying because Kawaki’s been living with the fear that Momoshiki will eventually take over Boruto, and he’s been close to doing something drastic to prevent it. Fans, myself included, have been bracing for that moment for a while now – or at least, for Momoshiki to try and take control. This new agreement just feels like it’s making Kawaki’s worst nightmare more likely, and I have a really bad feeling it might happen right after they deal with Jura.

Code Is Still a Threat to Konoha

The story moved away from Code after introducing the Shinju Clones, and he hasn’t been a major presence since the beginning. However, as the leader of Kara, he remains a danger to Konoha and will probably return, potentially even more powerful, given his ambition to become a Celestial Being. Considering he created the Shinju Clones – even though they now follow Jura – it could be logical for the story to refocus on him once the Shinju storyline is resolved.

Some fans believe Code’s power could be unleashed, making him even stronger than Jura and a great villain for a future storyline. Once he breaks free from being controlled by others, he has the potential to become a truly powerful enemy, though others hope he’ll ultimately find redemption.

There Are More Suspicious Plotlines

The early storylines in Boruto: TBV have already significantly changed the established power dynamics of the series by introducing new, incredibly strong abilities like shinjutsu, Uzuhiko, and Ohirume. Even more importantly, the constant sense of danger has created several unresolved plot threads that hint at future conflicts, more upheaval, and the arrival of even more formidable enemies.

Kashin Koji is a particularly intriguing character. While he’s been guiding Boruto, seemingly to prevent a terrible future he can foresee, Boruto still doesn’t fully trust him, and Koji remains shrouded in mystery. Koji possesses a unique ability called Prescience, allowing him to glimpse potential futures. However, recent events in chapters 32 and 33 have raised questions about his true intentions, particularly his unnecessary attempt to manipulate Inojin into killing Kobu. This doesn’t automatically make him a villain, but his questionable morals and manipulative behavior suggest he might have hidden motives for changing the future, and may not be sharing everything about his visions. This leaves plenty of room for Koji to potentially become an antagonist later on.

Akebi and her father, Amado, pose a significant danger. Fans are questioning Amado’s extensive knowledge of the Otsutsuki clan and whether he has ties to Shibai. More concerningly, he manipulated Kawaki into helping him bring his daughter back to life using Karma. Similar to Boruto’s agreement with Momoshiki, this deal hasn’t been fully realized, and considering Kawaki’s history, abilities, and the secrets Amado is keeping, this experiment is likely to have disastrous results, potentially turning Akebi into a formidable enemy.

A Potential Final Villain Has Also Been Teased

The series Boruto has hinted at a potential final villain. Boruto has repeatedly emphasized in The Boruto Vision that the Otsutsuki clan poses the greatest danger to Earth and he intends to eliminate them all. Furthermore, in Boruto: Naruto Next Generations, Amado revealed the existence of Shibai Otsutsuki, an Otsutsuki member so incredibly powerful he was considered a god even among his own people, and who may have achieved a form of immortality by transcending his physical body.

Considering how frightening Shibai is, many fans would be upset if he didn’t appear before the series ends. He’s incredibly powerful, though, so he can’t show up just yet. It seems likely he’ll be saved for the manga’s ultimate showdown as the final villain.
