Cardano creator Charles Hoskinson recently revealed on X (formerly Twitter) that he faced a strange problem: difficulty verifying his own identity on social media. He suggests this could be an issue for anyone.
The creator of Cardano joined a Telegram group about Midnight, sparking questions among members about whether it was really him.
One user questioned if the account was genuinely Charles, while another confirmed it was. However, a Telegram moderator expressed doubt and requested Charles Hoskinson, the Cardano founder, either change his name or be removed from the chat.

The Cardano founder shared a screenshot that reflected this hilarious yet concerning moment.
I’m struggling to convince our moderators that I am Charles Hoskinson. It would be really helpful if there was a way to prove my identity on Telegram using a zero-knowledge proof system.

Charles Hoskinson tweeted that he’s struggling to convince moderators he is who he says he is. He suggested a zero-knowledge proof system could help him verify his identity on Telegram.
It’s no surprise that this happened, as scams are common in the crypto world. Scammers often pretend to be popular figures to spread false information and steal money from people.
ZK solution enters
It’s common for scammers to pretend to be legitimate cryptocurrency companies on social media platforms like X, Telegram, Facebook, and Instagram, using their logos and branding. This has made crypto users very cautious, and they might even be suspicious of genuine companies reaching out to them. Unfortunately, there isn’t a reliable way to confirm the true identity of accounts on these platforms, making it hard to tell who is real and who isn’t.
Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson hints at ZK solution (Zero Knowledge) as a fix to this issue.
Charles Hoskinson jokingly tweeted about wishing Telegram had a zero-knowledge (ZK) system for proving identity. He was referencing ZK technology, which powers his new blockchain project, Midnight.
As a researcher following the Cardano ecosystem, I’m excited to share that the Midnight network officially launched on March 30th. This is a significant step because Midnight introduces a new level of privacy to blockchain technology. It does this by utilizing zero-knowledge proofs, which essentially protect sensitive data without revealing it, and it provides developers with tools that make building privacy-focused decentralized applications much easier.
