Cardano is nearing the launch of its van Rossem hard fork, marking a major step forward for the network.
Intersect, a community group within the Cardano network, has announced that the van Rossem upgrade has been launched on the testnet for initial evaluation.
Important update: The van Rossem Hard Fork has been released on the Preview test network today. Cardano Node version 11.0.1 (Pre-Release) is now available and *required* for a smooth transition through the hard fork. This applies to Stake Pool Operators (SPOs), Decentralized Applications (DApps), and…

As a researcher following the Cardano ecosystem, I’m pleased to share that the pre-release of Cardano Node version 11.0.1 is now available. This upgrade is crucial for a smooth and secure transition through the upcoming hard fork. I strongly recommend that stake pool operators, DApp developers, and other developers on the preview network update their nodes as quickly as possible.
As an analyst, I’ve been tracking the Cardano network, and I can confirm that Node 11.0.1 is a key release. It’s the first version designed to handle the upcoming intra-era hard fork. Essentially, once the community – specifically stake pool operators, delegation representatives, and the Constitutional Committee – votes to upgrade to protocol version 11 and that decision is confirmed on the blockchain, this node will allow the network to seamlessly transition.

This release updates Cardano’s API and command-line tools to version 11.0 and prepares the network for a future upgrade to protocol version 12, along with other enhancements.
Cardano Van Rossem hard fork
The van Rossem upgrade will improve Cardano’s preview network to use Protocol Version 11. This also updates the main Cardano network to Major Version 11, Minor Version 0. Importantly, this upgrade doesn’t change the current operational era of the network, which remains in the Conway era.
Protocol Version 11 delivers a focused set of enhancements to how Plutus runs, how reliably the ledger operates, and the security of network nodes, all within a single upgrade. Because it’s a specific type of update that doesn’t alter transaction formats, it requires minimal effort for the wider Cardano ecosystem to adopt.
The upgrade will introduce several new building blocks for Plutus smart contracts, as detailed in proposals CIP-0109, CIP-0132, CIP-0133, CIP-0138, and CIP-0153.
This update makes the same set of core functions available in Plutus V1, V2, and V3. After the network upgrade, all functions – including new ones – will work with all Plutus versions, giving existing V1 and V2 scripts more power and flexibility.
Before this proposal is approved, at least 85% of Cardano stake pools – measured by the amount of ADA they control – must update their software to a version compatible with protocol version 11, as outlined in the Cardano Constitution.
