In Directive 8020, Carter’s Utility Strap might contain a message for his daughter or a warning for the crew, based on the decisions you make. All crew members on the Cassiopeia wear these straps on their wrists to control things like doors. Carter had his on when Simms captured him, and you can find it while searching for Simms in episode 3. Finding this strap is also how you unlock the ‘Lost and Found’ trophy in Directive 8020.
How to Find Carter’s Utility Strap in Directive 8020 (Lost and Found)
You can find Carter’s Utility Strap in Directive 8020 while playing Chapter 3. It’s located during the “Search” section, immediately after Cooper and Anders go through the Mess Hall with a Power Cell.
This is the same area where you’ll need to find the code for the food storage locker.
Once you leave the Mess Hall, you’ll see a scene where Cooper and Anders notice a beeping sound. If you listen closely, you’ll find it’s coming from behind the shutters, near the sign for Cassiopeia.
Go down the stairs and push the broken shutters aside to create a clear path. Then, enter the small room and carefully slide across the gap to reach the other side.
Okay, so I just got past that tricky part, and when I turned left, there was Carter’s Utility Strap just sitting on a box! Seriously, grabbing it instantly unlocked the ‘Lost and Found’ trophy in Directive 8020. It’s pretty cool because the strap only shows one of two different video clips, depending on the decisions I made earlier in the game.
| If Carter is Caught by Simms While Getting Chased (Episode 1) | It’ll play Carter’s heartfelt message for his daughter Luna. |
|---|---|
| If Carter Successfully Evades Simms (Episode 1) | It’ll play the message Carter’s records during the end of the chase sequence, warning the rest of the crew about the dangers lurking on Cassiopeia. |
If the Utility Strap in Carter’s game makes a warning sound, it will change what happens in future parts of the story.
