Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Fails To Surpass Its Biggest Rival At Box Office

The movie Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle has been a huge hit since its release in Japan in July 2025, becoming incredibly popular. Although the first part of Infinity Castle recently finished its run and was very successful, it didn’t quite surpass the box office numbers of the previous Demon Slayer movie, Mugen Train, in Japan. However, Infinity Castle still proved to be a global phenomenon.

Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Ends Its Theatrical Run At 40.2 Billion Yen In 266 Days

In 2025, Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Part 1 — Akaza Return was the biggest anime movie release, generating huge excitement worldwide. Following the success of Mugen Train, fans eagerly attended the premiere. The film had an impressive run in Japan, playing in theaters for 266 days, from July 18, 2025, to April 9, 2026. This is a remarkably long time for a movie to stay in cinemas – most films are only shown for a couple of months before becoming available for streaming.

Infinity Castle earned over 40.2 billion yen in Japan and sold over 27.4 million tickets—a fantastic result. However, it didn’t quite reach the success of Demon Slayer: Mugen Train, which earned over 40.75 billion yen. This makes Mugen Train Japan’s highest-grossing film, leading by just a few million yen.

Although Mugen Train was a huge hit in Japan, it didn’t perform as well internationally as Infinity Castle did. Infinity Castle earned $802 million worldwide, compared to Mugen Train’s $500 million. This difference is striking and highlights how much the anime market has expanded recently. Infinity Castle broke numerous records, including becoming the highest-grossing foreign film in the US, beating the previous record holder. It also became the top-performing anime film in many countries, significantly increasing the global presence of Japanese anime.

The first installment of Infinity Castle performed exceptionally well worldwide, so many fans were surprised when its box office numbers were surpassed in Japan by an earlier film in the series. Despite this, two more Infinity Castle movies are planned, and they still have a chance to exceed the popularity of the hit film, Mugen Train. The second movie will focus on the ongoing fight with Upper Rank Moon Two, Doma, and the battle against Kokushibo, the incredibly powerful Upper Rank One demon, who is second in command to Muzan. The third and final movie will bring the entire Demon Slayer story to a close.

With Infinity Castle Part 3 bringing the series to a permanent end, fans won’t want to miss the final showdown. The long-awaited battle against Muzan will finally happen, and the world’s destiny hangs in the balance. These movies have a strong chance of surpassing the success of Mugen Train, thanks to their high stakes and extensive promotion.

I’m seriously hyped for the next Demon Slayer movie! Everyone’s already wondering when it’s coming out, and honestly, I am too. There’s no official release date yet, but a lot of fans – and me! – are guessing sometime in 2027, maybe after the current anime season finishes airing in Japan. We’re all eagerly waiting for more news!

Honestly, whether you prefer the first Demon Slayer movie or the second, one thing is absolutely certain: this series is a massive hit, both in Japan and all around the world! It’s just dominating, and it’s amazing to see.
