Few anime series boast characters as famous and beloved as those in Dragon Ball. Over the years, the franchise has given us many unforgettable characters who have become hugely influential, inspiring countless others in anime.
Some of the most compelling characters in the Dragon Ball universe actually come from stories outside the main series – in movies and side series that aren’t considered official canon. This article will highlight the best of these non-canon characters and discuss which ones deserve a chance to be included in the main Dragon Ball storyline.
Cooler Is One Of The Franchise’s Best Villains
Frieza’s Petty Older Brother
Cooler remains one of the most iconic villains in the Dragon Ball series. He’s Frieza’s older brother, and his films portray him as arrogant and resentful of his sibling. This overconfidence ultimately pushed Goku to achieve the Super Saiyan transformation, which led to Cooler’s downfall.
I’ve always noticed how much fans adore Cooler. He’s a really different villain from the typically power-hungry and threatening characters we usually see in the series, and that’s a big part of his appeal. It’s no surprise he was brought back in Super Dragon Ball Heroes. Considering how important the multiverse is in Super, I wouldn’t be surprised at all if Cooler returned, maybe even with a new, golden transformation.
Baby Was One Of GT’s Best Villains
The Powerful Tuffle
Now that Dragon Ball is exploring its history and the origins of the Saiyans in more detail, bringing back the character Baby would be a great addition. The recent storyline with Granolah has already shown the darker side of the Saiyans’ past and how Vegeta and Goku responded to it, making Baby – and his connection to the Tuffles – a natural fit for the current narrative.
Within the established Dragon Ball story, the Tuffles were the first people to live on Planet Vegeta. It would be amazing to see a major storyline focused on Baby seeking revenge for their loss. Alternatively, Baby could simply be a leader of the Tuffles, driven by a desire for payback against the Saiyans, which would create a really compelling narrative.

The Shadow Dragons Are An Amazing Concept
Powerful Villains
Many fans rightly criticized Dragon Ball GT for its flaws. However, the series also had a brilliant idea with the Shadow Dragons. These powerful villains emerged because the Dragon Balls had been overused, causing them to crack and give birth to these new threats.
Beyond simply showing us each dragon, the series would greatly improve by establishing this idea. It would make every wish granted by the Dragon Balls feel more significant and add real consequences to the story – something fans often say is lacking in Dragon Ball.
Cumber Could Fill The Role Of An Evil Saiyan
The Legendary Saiyan
Cumber was an incredibly strong Saiyan who lived long ago and fought against the very first Super Saiyan God. This makes him special – he has a distinct, menacing presence and is one of the few Saiyans in the universe who are truly villains.
He began as a villain but later became an ally, a common arc for many heroes. It would be fantastic to see him return as a ruthless and crazed character, similar to the non-canon version of Broly – a Saiyan obsessed with destruction. This would make him an ideal opponent for Broly.
Super Saiyan 4 Gogeta Was The Highlight Of GT
The Strongest Fusion
For about 20 years, Super Saiyan 4 Gogeta was considered the most powerful fusion character in all of Dragon Ball. This made him a fan favorite, as his incredible strength allowed him to fight some of the series’ most challenging enemies.
With Super Saiyan 4 now officially part of the Dragon Ball story in Daima and Gogeta’s canonization through the Broly movie, it’s a great time to bring this powerful fusion back into the main storyline. It would be fascinating to see how Gogeta looks and fights with God Ki, and how he stacks up against the most dangerous villains in the multiverse.
