Following its initial reveal at the Dragon Ball Genkidamatsuri event in January, we now have a major update about Dragon Ball: Age 1000, finally clarifying what the game is all about. The first teaser was very brief, only letting fans know the game had been in development for a long time and that Akira Toriyama was responsible for the new character and the game’s story.
Fans of Akira Toriyama’s earlier work, particularly his sequel to Dragon Ball Z featured in Dragon Ball Online, have long suspected a connection between that story and the future of the Dragon Ball universe. Now, at Dragon Ball Games Battle Hour 2026, it’s been officially confirmed that the upcoming Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3 will be set in the year 1000 – the same year central to Toriyama’s original vision for the Dragon Ball timeline, predating Dragon Ball Super. This means the new game will incorporate his ideas about what the future holds for the series.
Dragon Ball Project: Age 1000 Was Secretly Xenoverse 3 All Along
At Dragon Ball Games Battle Hour 2026, it was announced that Akira Toriyama was heavily involved in creating the world and story for Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3. Originally planned as Dragon Ball: Age 1000, the game takes place far into the future of the Dragon Ball universe and features a brand-new cast of characters, all designed by Toriyama. While the game introduces new heroes, some familiar faces will return – Piccolo can be spotted in the trailer, and Gamma 1 will play a significant role in the story alongside Bulma.
Considering Bulma’s age, she likely shouldn’t still be alive by the year 1000, but she may be using the Dragon Balls to maintain her youth or has traveled to the future. The upcoming Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3 will introduce two new playable characters – Brett and a currently unnamed female protagonist – alongside the previously revealed white-haired Super Saiyan. Bandai Namco announced this in a recent press release.
The DRAGON BALL XENOVERSE 3 trailer showed off West City, a brand new and lively world set 1000 years into the future, where players will experience fresh storylines. You’ll join the Great Saiyan Squad and fight with your teammates as things start to unfold.
