On May 19, 2026, Dune: Awakening will get a major update – Update 1.4 – along with the release of its first downloadable content, The Water Wars. Developed by Funcom, Dune: Awakening is a survival RPG set in the famous Dune universe. Players navigate the harsh desert planet of Arrakis, facing challenges like fierce storms, building bases, and interacting with various dangerous groups. Since its release in June 2025, the game has been a hit with both players and critics, quickly gaining a large following.
The game has become popular largely because Funcom regularly updates it and pays attention to what players want. Last year, they shared plans for future updates to Dune: Awakening, including a major addition called The Water Wars DLC, with updates planned through 2026. While details were scarce and there was no release date, Funcom has now announced a launch window for the DLC, alongside a significant game update that will introduce several new features.
Dune: Awakening Update 1.4 and The Water Wars DLC Coming Soon
Funcom announced that the next major update for Dune: Awakening, Update 1.4, and its accompanying DLC, The Water Wars, will launch on May 19, 2026. The update is free for all players and adds two new areas to explore: The Wind Pass, a former Harkonnen technology center now vital for the planet’s water trade, and The Old Quarry Testing Station, where players will encounter Dr. Jalatna. These areas expand the game’s endgame content, which began with Chapter 3. While this update focuses on new areas and missions, the developers plan to add story content in future updates.

In addition to a free update, a new DLC called The Water Wars will be released. It includes over 70 cosmetic items inspired by Water Shipper, such as building pieces, decorations, armor, weapons, a unique ornithopter, and emotes. The Water Wars DLC costs $9.99 on its own, or it’s included in the Season Pass for $24.99, which also features the Lost Harvest and Raiders of the Broken Lands DLCs. You can also find the Season Pass bundled with the Deluxe and Ultimate Editions of Dune: Awakening. Funcom also announced that PvP combat is now entirely optional following the 1.3.20.0 update.
The initial reaction to Update 1.4 and the Water Wars DLC on platforms like Reddit and Twitter has been a bit of both positive and negative. Players are enjoying the new areas and customization options, but many had hoped for DLC that would continue the story and offer more challenging content for endgame players. However, the community seems pleased with Funcom’s plans to improve the endgame experience in Dune: Awakening, especially the ability for players who prefer to play against the environment to progress without being disrupted by others.

Players are really hoping to find out when the game will be available on consoles, as that would attract more players and expand its reach. Regarding crossplay in Dune: Awakening, it’s still uncertain – Game Director Joel Bylos explained that whether or not it’s possible depends on decisions made by Xbox and PlayStation.
