Shuhei Yoshida, a former PlayStation and Sony executive, reminisces about an early-stage development version of the game known as ‘Ghost of Yotei’. He describes it as intuitive and bug-free. As for the upcoming Sucker Punch title, Ghost of Yotei remains shrouded in mystery, with fans eagerly anticipating any major updates on this intriguing game.
Following the unveiling of Ghost of Yotei at a PlayStation State of Play event last year, there’s been scarce information regarding this upcoming game, which is seen as the spiritual sequel to Ghost of Tsushima. Set 300 years after the events in Jin Sakai’s story, Yotei introduces a new main character on a quest for vengeance, tracking down those responsible for her family’s demise. Despite an undisclosed release date, Ghost of Yotei seems poised to deliver another captivating gaming experience, as suggested by at least one former Sony executive.
During a recent Easy Allies podcast discussion, Shuhei Yoshida spoke about Sony’s upcoming exclusive title, “Ghost of Yotei.” Praise was given by Yoshida to developers like Naughty Dog and Sucker Punch for their ability to create games that feel effortless, almost as if playing through the controller is second nature. However, Yoshida had further comments about the noticeable enhancements in “Ghost of Yotei” compared to its previous version.
Yoshida Offers High Praise to Ghost of Yotei
One notable feature that caught Yoshida’s attention while playing ‘Ghost of Yotei’ was Sucker Punch’s ability to provide a smooth and bug-free gameplay experience, even during the early stages of development. Despite multiple alterations to the battle system at this time, Yoshida was consistently impressed by the fact that “the game never crashes” and “it always functions properly.” Additionally, Yoshida shared that he played through much of Atsu’s journey in ‘Ghost of Yotei’ before eventually parting ways with Sony. This was because the producer requested his feedback every time he visited Sucker Punch.
Each time I drop by Sucker Punch, despite having departed from the initial gathering, the game producer invites me into his private space and lets me test-drive Ghost of Yotei before it’s officially released. He values my input, and every encounter leaves me exhilarated. Consequently, I eagerly anticipate this upcoming title.
Despite speculations suggesting that Sucker Punch’s upcoming open-world game might be released in 2025, the studio has been tight-lipped about a specific release date. However, whispers and potential leaks hint towards an anticipated summer launch for Ghost of Yotei, with July or August being the likely months. Given that its predecessor, Ghost of Tsushima, debuted on PlayStation 4 in July 2020, a similar summer release for the sequel seems plausible. Fans can hope for official confirmation soon if this summer launch date is indeed the planned release.
